There will be another 60 vote Friday* on the garbage shutdown deal. If we can convince just one Senator from the 52 republicans and 8 Dems that voted yes to flip, we could still stop this. Please jump on the phone today, call them, and share this widely.

*If all goes by the regular schedule

And now I am in love.
I love how Rep. Joe Neguse reframed this question.

Dear lord. Apparently I am better informed about governmental issues (just by logging onto Bluesky in the morning) than is this asshat who has a major role in our government.
Q: What's your reaction to yesterday's purge of senior ICE officials? When is it time for Congress to do some oversight?

MIKE JOHNSON: I don't know any of the details of that yet. I just heard about that, literally I was walking in.

AOC: And they are able to radicalize a generation of young boys in particular, away from healthy masculinity and into an insecure masculinity that requires the domination of others who are poorer, browner, darker, or a different gender than them.

Just the bit about the MMWR staff alone is hella bad, and that's the least of what they've done here.
FULL STORY HERE: Emails began flooding CDC inboxes late Friday night announcing dozens of layoffs. HR people brought back from furlough to oversee the RIFs. Disease detectives, entire Washington office, global health, injury prevention, MMWR staff among those hit.

This is the top headline on CNN. A good warning sign that your country may be becoming a dictatorship is when your plain-jane straight news networks start saying “Our country is becoming a dictatorship”

There is a guy out there for you. Look, your bestie New York City found a great guy and she’s had so many bad exs.

To put a finer point on it, Pritzker is being presidential in a way Newsom is not. Newsom is doing a decent job trolling Trump for the lulz, but Pritzker is speaking with the gravitas this situation warrants, promising real accountability, with federal, state and local leaders standing behind him.
Illinois Gov. Pritzker vows to pursue Trump officials who participate in an illegal National Guard deployment to Chicago:

"If you hurt my people, nothing will stop me - not time or political circumstance - from making sure that you face justice under our constitutional rule of law."

Yikes. This is depressing.
I recently complained/asked how to stop (there were no good answers) the Democratic fundraising texts. A friend shared this piece about what a total scam it is: "$11 million of the $678 million raised from individuals has made its way to candidates, campaigns, or the national party committees."

Huge statement by Senator Angus King
In a new statement, Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) says he's done supporting any aid to Israel amid Gaza's nutrition and humanitarian crisis.

"My litmus test will be simple: no aid of any kind as long as there are starving children in Gaza due to the action or inaction of the Israeli government.”

NASA is more than rockets and moonwalks. NASA is behind much of our everyday technology. From space discovery, to Air Jordans, to CAT scans, NASA has played a role. We get it all on less than a penny of every federal dollar. Now their science may be gutted by 50%.

Welp, the bill has passed.

There's a lot of good information in this ~30-min broadcast (recorded before the vote today) about what's in the bill, when various parts go into effect, and action steps we can take to help each other at the local level. Because we're going to need to help each other.

I flagged this in April and have been howling it into the void. Trump wants Black & Latino incarcerated U.S. citizens sent to CECOT in El Salvador, Congo, South Sudan. These are the “homegrown” Trump talked about with the Salvadoran PM.

Please. Take this seriously.
