I think the size of the Lords is the least important of the issues it presents…let’s start by getting rid of 26 Bishops, anyone who speaks in debate on fewer than 25 occasions a year, and anyone who we are not allowed to know who they are. Then we can abolish the rest at our leisure.
Today the PM has announced 38 new peers, to add to a chamber of over 800
Constitution Unit Director & House of Lords expert Meg Russell describes it as 'very disappointing' to do this without agreeing a size cap for the chamber.
Most people want the Lords to be no bigger than the House of Commons.

I just listened to Jeremy Vine go from South Korea and martial law to Starmers free glasses…surely the @bbcnewsnight.bsky.social cannot countenance its star presenters drawing equivalence between declaring martial law and the UK government
