Why can firms hike prices in an emergency?

My answer at CNBC:
1. Cost shocks coordinate price hikes.
2. Bottlenecks present an opportunity to hike prices more than costs to expand margins.
3. Consumers accept higher prices when there is a global shock like pandemic or war.
