I’m here for the same reasons you are.
It’s truly amazing how bad at this gig Lindsey Halligan is.
Lindsey Halligan says I’m not a journalist.

But if you think I am, and you value our our non-profit legal news and analysis, you can support our work here: givebutter.com/journalism/a...

EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.

It’s interesting watching the messaging on Kirk’s murder change in real time.

First it was he was killed because he was a “truth-teller and lover of debate”. That got no traction, so know they’re trying to make him a Christian martyr.
Chip Roy: "The truth is the marxist, radicals, and Islamists the Democratic Party promoted this weekend, they cannot handle the truth. The truth is that there is a king and that king is Jesus. And the president has been willing to say it, & Charlie Kirk was willing to say it & he got killed for it."

Ask any Clevelander about Linndale
See, if you're from a country with a less wildly corrupt police system, when you see 'speed trap' you think of 'a sudden change in the limit that catches people off guard but exists for a reason like a school crossing' not 'deliberately crafted system of extortion'

The Vice President is guest hosting a commercial podcast form the WH.

Beyond parody.
I should note: according to Vance just now, the Vice President is hosting the Charlie Kirk show "from West Wing, in the White House complex."
FYI: Stephen Miller just added to this during an appearance on the Charlie Kirk show, which is guest-hosted today by Vice President JD Vance.

Miller said this:

(History week continues!)

TIL Gene Kranz (Mission Control Chief, Apollo program) is also still alive.

Also, he’s from Toledo, and the airport is named after him.

Again, I have heard she’s lowkey just as unpleasant
anyway the thought of Cheryl Hines willingly having sex with RFK Jr. is bumming me out right now and I’m unburdening myself of this cross by sharing it with you all
I’d love the opportunity to ask Cheryl Hines “how come?” and then follow that up with a “but why?”

TIL Che Guevara’s widow is still alive

Good God in Heaven
BREAKING: ICE is sending Russian dissidents back to Russia. When the dissidents arrived in Russia, the Russian authorities were given documents relating to their asylum applications in the US which under US law are confidential. This seems to be part of a secret agreement between Trump and Putin.
‘I escaped a Russian prison — only to end up in an American jail’
Dozens of Russian dissidents have been expelled from the US and forcibly returned to Russia with the co-operation of immigration authorities

Labor Day has always been the weakest of holidays for me, not that the sentiment isn’t nice.

It’s so anticlimactic, it’s like, let’s just get on with fall already.

'The Books That Made Us' is available for pre-order.

Part memoir, part literary criticism, part theological analysis, it's a journey of religious deconstruction through the modern Christian classics: the writings of Chesterton, Eliot, Lewis, Tolkien, O'Connor, etc.

Links to order below.

Howlin' Wolf w/ Robert Plunkett, Hubert Sumlin & Detroit Junior, Eddie's Place (1815 Club), 1815 W Roosevelt, Chicago, c.1974. Wolf's musical home at the end, one of the few old-style South Side clubs perceived as friendly to white people. Later a church (fancy that), now a hardware store.

Cleveland, all-time?

Michael Stanley (deceased) is the true local answer.

But Springsteen is actually the big one. He owes his career in big part to the heyday of WMMS, and he was constantly playing college gigs all over here before that.
I love how certain cities hold their most iconic musicians as patron saints and part of the city's identity. Minneapolis has Prince. We in Austin Have Willy. New Orleans has Dr. John.

Genuinely curious: Who is your city's musical patron saint?

Years ago, I made a tester account for this kind of thing. It is following only @NBA and nothing else. It has never posted or interacted with a single tweet.

I just logged on to it. Here’s what the algorithm showed me as I scrolled for 30 seconds.

I’ve said for a long time that electing a person of color broke a lot of people’s brains in this country.
it is sort of fascinating that there is a direct line from the election of the first Black man to the presidency to Trumpist hegemonic suicide

Ok, laugh at me (deserved), but I follow a guy on YT who runs a very successful watch business. He also sells accessories he has made.

He did a video last night on how the tariffs are going to destroy his business. It was so well done as an explainer, it got him on PBS NewsHour.
fwiw, “cheap goods from china” really understates the high quality of manufacturing you can get from chinese suppliers these days. also, we can have real prosperity with pro labor economy and a generous social insurance state but they don’t want that!
Kudlow: "Buying cheap goods is not a real prosperity, and we don't have to accept that. So you lay the law down, that's all. Look, all the badly behaving children in Asia and elsewhere are coming home to papa. They're all on the phone begging for mercy."

I saw someone say it on the other place the other day, the feedback loop between online/IRL is so much faster in Trump 2.

I saw that Laken Riley phrase used verbatim the other day. I really wonder how the talking points get so centrally disseminated.
KARL: Do they have any due process at all?

HOMAN: Due process -- what was Laken Riley's due process?

(That's a "no")
