"Unfortunately, when a right-wing man tells a woman he finds her unattractive, that doesn’t mean he’s going to leave her alone."

On why right wing men keep mocking the appearance of a murder victim.

Why right-wing men insult the way women look
Sub-rational though this fixation on female beauty may be, it’s of vital political importance to them. And they intend to make it matter to us.

yes a WAR CRIME
Breaking NYT:

The Pentagon used a secret aircraft painted to look like a civilian plane in its first boat attack, according to officials briefed on the matter.

The laws of armed conflict forbid combatants from feigning civilian status.

That is a war crime called "perfidy."

AOC: I want everybody to understand that the cuts to your health care are what’s paying for this. You get screwed over to pay a bunch of thugs in the street that are shooting mothers in the face.

Whatever path they took to arrive at this moral low, whatever sophistries they invoke to justify themselves, these men believe they are entitled to murder women simply for not being “respectful” enough.

The men defending murder are telling us who they are
Communally, we can deny violent, predatory men the support system they depend on to protect them when they do harm.

Millions in this nation have given themselves over to evil so completely, that they consider the pain and suffering of others reward enough. No need to give them health care or housing.

"Those of us who have spent years writing about sexual abuse in conservative Christian spaces are not shocked to see right wingers in the United States move the goalposts when it comes to defending Donald Trump. They’ve been practicing for this, for years."
They have a template for this
We shouldn't be surprised to see conservative Christians defending Donald Trump. They've been practicing for this for years.

I've been remiss about engaging with all you good folks on this platform, for the past few weeks. But while I was away, my book came out: a journey of religious deconstruction through the problematic classics of modern Christian literature.

'The Books That Made Us' comes out in a week. If you are recovering from having been "educated" in a conservative academic subculture, you may find it relatable.

This regime is such a grotesque inversion of actual gospel values and multiple people I know who are pious churchgoers are cheering it on.
Earlier this year, we published an article headlined “10 Ways to Enrich the Trumps and the MAGA Movement.”

We failed, though, to consider that the president might simply force the US government, i.e. us taxpayers, to straight-up pay him hundreds of millions of dollars.
Report: Trump demands taxpayers hand him $230 million
Is it still "ridiculous that anyone would even suggest" that he's cashing in?

But an awful lot of the folks who ten years ago I thought of as liberal because they were into organics, yoga, herbal tinctures, and howling at the moon have now tumbled straight into conspiracy theories, woowoo stuff, and of course MAGA. Good times. Anyway thanks for your great research and work.

It was so illuminating. Before I read your book my association between yoga and fascism was usually to do with conservative Christians being racist about nonwhite cultures ("if you do yoga you are worshiping Hindu deities who are actually demons and you will be possessed" sort of nonsense).

This is what he's doing to everything. But it wouldn't have been possible without the millions of you who put him in power. Really great job folks.
The White House is asking people not to share pictures of the East Wing because it’s even worse today.

(I still do yoga stretches and poses though. They are super helpful for middle aged equestrians).

I was grateful to have the chance to read this book as part of my ongoing informal project of understanding why people get sucked into fascism.

Aside from the book offering several essential puzzle-pieces, it also illuminated aspects of arts cultures and subcultures of the 20th century.
“Even for those without a stake in yoga, @stewarthome.bsky.social’s book is enlightening. Recognizing elements of fascism in yoga culture can help clarify how fascism finds a toehold in other communities, including Christian ones.”
