Corruption Я Us.
Trump's IRS chief finally said IRS Direct File is "gone." Intuit lobbied hard against free federal filing for years.

Here's Intuit CEO Sasan Goodarzi defending that record in a Decoder interview last year. Intuit later asked us to cut this part. We refused.

This was not as good a CPI report as the administration is spinning it. Core YoY 2.9%; Headline +0.3% to 2.7%. Core goods ex-autos +0.55%, most since 2021.
Also up significantly: appliances, toys, electronics. Tariffs starting to show up in the data.

How many of the "public" who are against Trump actually voted against him?

Complaining about leaders in this country is robust.

Voter turnout in this country is abysmal.
Agree w @billkristolbulwark.bsky.social here (yes). Now writing something to similar effect.

Jimmy Carter loved to say USA needed 'a govt as good as its people.' Easy to see sardonic version of that line. But it applies in 'real' version now. Public standing up; most institutions/ "leaders" are not
"While a successful democracy depends on some degree of reasonableness from voters, a successful liberal democracy also depends on some degree of responsibility and even courage from elites."

The Senate took Trump's tax plan and made it appear nearly 90% cheaper.

Republicans changed how its cost was calculated in a way that would omit the estimated $4.2 trillion the plan would add to the national debt.
Senate excludes trillions in debt to make Trump’s tax bill seem cheaper
Traditional estimates say that Trump’s tax package will add about $4 trillion to the national debt. Senate Republicans have slashed that number by changing the way Congress does its accounting.
