Okay, Bluesky, I've been putting this off, but it's time to dragon up.

Hi, I'm JP, and I write books, mostly speculative, very queer. Sometimes I also talk about niche sports, how I cope with my weird brain, and cats.
I signed my kid up for a coding extracurricular through his school and the instructor is prompting him to use AI to flesh out his prompts. He has advocated for his own ethical objections to AI and his own ability to be creative, but using AI is in fact mandatory.

How much do I fight about this?

I got 8 hours of sleep last night and I feel up to about 800% more than I normally do. It did take a 9-hour sleep window to accomplish this. I wish this were possible on a more regular basis (but I have to parent a child with an 8:30 bedtime and arrive at work at 4:30AM).

Things I am getting more conservative about as I age: wishing they would slow down changing the goddamn user interfaces of every damn thing

Things I am getting less "conservative" about: believing that every human being deserves rights, resources, and dignity.

big late breaking news: the market monitor for the largest energy grid in the u.s., covering much of the midwest and mid-atlantic, has called to block new data centers connections to the grid, saying current course of growth assures regular blackouts
No more PJM data centers unless they can be reliably served: market monitor
The PJM Interconnection’s market monitor urged the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to rule that large data centers can only come online if the grid operator can still meet reliability metrics.

I will feel better if I do a little yoga video and then read a book. So why do I only want to sit on my phone and play silly mobile games?

Me on Monday: so, our fridge is broken. Here's a dinner plan that feeds 3 adults and one tween from Tuesday through Friday. I am working on the weekend and can't help with dinner on those days.

Them, today: JP, what are your dinner thoughts?

me at work: boy oh boy I can't wait to be home! I'm gonna take a shower and put on soft clothes, like maybe my cozy dinosaur onesie, and I'll feel clean and good and wonderful.
me, literally half an hour later, staring at the shower: but I do not WANT to be Wet?

me, eating oatmeal: Hello, porridge. I could be in a fantasy novel right now. Perhaps as a nice supporting character with less mortal peril than a protagonist, but maybe some cool powers anyway. Nom nom nom fantasy novel food.

Stuff is pretty hard right now, both personally and (*gestures at the entire USA*), so I'm controlling what I can control. By which I mean: I made cookies and shared them with my friend and my mom.

Scene: our refrigerator is broken, so I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to get dinner on the table with a minimum number of trips to the emergency basement refrigerator.
There is a crashing noise.

I am in the stage of my life where I have a full day on an Amtrak train in my future and I'm looking forward to it excitedly because it will be 12 hours where no one will be asking me to either accomplish tasks or solve problems.

Queer Bluesky: how old were you when you came out and how old are you now?

I was 13, and now I’m 37.

(And I am very tired of coming out. How dull to have to correct people's wrong assumptions.)

it's not like I even care that much about the White House, not the way I care about other people

but this is a singular image that shows the destruction being wrought.

Whistling when ICE is about to kidnap someone for no reason is incredibly effective. They know what they are doing is wrong and will scatter in the wind when too many witnesses gather.
