I am begging y'all to realize that the reason they want everything to be a felony is because it creates free labor in most states *and strips voting rights to change that, at the same time*

Just to be 1000% clear here:
This isn't an accident.
It was built into the 13th amendment.
It's fully intentional that it impacts people of color, especially Black folks, at the highest rates.
The carceral system is built to create cheap labor and disenfranchise marginalized folks.

I’m so tired of all the myriad ways institutions are designed to make life harder for the people who are already struggling the most. And absolutely crushed waiting for the next round knowing it’s only going to get worse.

This isn't a recipe, per se, although if you follow it like one it will yield delicious results. Instead, my goal is to demystify gravy-making in advance of the holiday for the many of you making grav...

The struggle is real.

*Looks forlornly at first draft book manuscript, 80% finished convertible mittens, 75% finished digital avi of dnd character, just started vector art for disability pride Valentine’s cards, and…sighs*

Always.

All I want from 2024 is to find my center again. To move back in to my own home after so many months adrift so I can have friends stop by, invite new feline companions into my heart, rest my head in my own bed, on my own pillows, and finally settle in to a sustainable routine.

“Innocent” is a subjective, social construct. “Innocent” always stands implicitly or explicitly in contrast to “not innocent.”

Things to consider:
- Who is using it?
- How is it used?
- Who/what does it apply to & who/what is excluded?
- What is the difference?
- How may it shape public perception?

Nobody should be left to die from preventable causes or lack of access to essential resources.

Everyone deserves to live a safe, comfortable, self-directed life.

this is not a callout of anyone and I’m grateful they’re on the morally correct side of this but I keep seeing men being genuinely shocked about the idea of a state forcing a woman to give birth and I sort of just feel like …. the women in your life have been telling you it would come to this

I don't think abled people understand that breaking a disabled person's wheelchair is assault. It's equivalent to breaking your legs.

It’s not just Muslims the democrats lost, they’re the party the majority of people of color in this country who still put stock in electoralism were going in for, & an awakening is happening at how our lives are truly regarded (other evidence has long been there).

I'm not saying the intent here is the deaths of many marginalized US residents; I'm guessing that's considered an unfortunate side effect that needs to be managed and spun.

I know a lot of folks think it's the intent and I accept there's a possibility I could be wrong.

I also do think that to some extent Biden took this tack because of January 6. He wanted to show strength and leadership and decided to focus on a "strong economy".

(He talked about a strong economy more than once, especially in 2021.)

To multiple government public health folks saying we were just going to have to get used to people who were already vulnerable to illness dying from COVID-19 (even though we know how to prevent it and just aren't doing the things).

At some point, we have to realize it's not accident or ignorance.

I know I sound like a conspiracy theorist every time I say this, but they've actually been pretty up-front about this stuff.

From the Biden administration saying they would stop "stimulus" payments because it was discouraging people from working to the CDC director calling masks "scarlet letters".

Between both the White House and the CDC, they have made explicit statements to this effect.

Also, as far as the Biden administration is concerned, if they tell us to ignore the invisible elephant in the room and use government power to make it harder to track, they're less responsible for it.

I mean TBH I'd say the biggest reason is because our current administration decided masks and other active forms of COVID-19 mitigation are too visible and constant reminders that the status quo isn't safe, which, in turn, makes it more difficult for The Economy to exploit workers.
*raises hand*

because our education standards suck, our health care system has long been corrupted by unchecked corporate power, and a coalition of right wing propagandists exploited an historic health crisis to encourage strife and division for political gain?
Face masks ward off covid-19, so why are we still arguing about it?
The most recent review into the effectiveness of face masks has confirmed that they do help to prevent covid-19, but the intervention remains a controversial issue
