Seriously...what are the betting odds that one juror threw a sandwich at a hold-out, they all laughed about it and voted not guilty?

If your T&P committees aren't factoring in the funding mess that we're going through into their decisions, your committees are making a big mistake.

And if you're not willing to take it into account in your external T&P review letters, please decline requests to review.
and there it is. the absolutely massive change in R01s funded multi-year. our perceptions that the new mandate, sorry strong suggestion, has had a dramatic effect on forward funding and therefore success rates is validated.
2025

Here the largest fraction is for R01 awards, followed by RF1s, and R21s.

In most cases, these were R01s that had not particularly reason to be forward funded except that NIH had put itself in a situation when large amounts of funding needed to be committed by the end of the fiscal year

There's a good chance that you have a local coffee shop that makes better stuff anyway. Here's a good excuse to try it out.
I don't drink coffee so not crossing this picket line won't be difficult for me, but the rest of you should probably be prepared to caffeinate in an alternate fashion
BREAKING: After months of stonewalling by Starbucks, unionized baristas just voted 92% to authorize a ULP strike unless Starbucks finalizes fair contracts & stops union busting.

If forced, our baristas will strike in dozens of cities on November 13 – the company's busiest sales day of the year.

I haven't looked into this enough to comment on the merits.

But I do know that I don't trust Marty Makary and Vinay Prasad, and think they're both in way over their heads but too arrogant or stupid to realize it.

I was on a state-mandated Bluesky blackout when it happened, so I never got to announce: new publication from the Sharp Lab!

Grad student Quadrat Yusuph published her first paper, which just so happens to be the first method for carbohydrate footprinting! Check it out in Analytical Chemistry.
Hydroxyl and Trifluoromethyl Radical Carbohydrate Footprinting for Probing Protein Binding Components of Oligosaccharides
Carbohydrates are found in various forms in living organisms, both as free-standing glycans as well as glycoconjugates including glycoproteins, glycolipids, and glycosaminoglycans. These structures pl...

New from me:

Elite law firms, multiple media outlets, the D.C. attorney general, and a group of parents accused a teacher of molesting 15 kids. They were wrong.

This piece is two-and-a-half years in the making. And as you'll see, it took some incredible turns, even as I was reporting it.
Accusing Jordan Silverman
A D.C. teaching assistant was accused of molesting up to 15 kids. Multiple law enforcement agencies cleared him. But his nightmare was just beginning.

Lol that explains it!

Trump didn't take 10% of Intel. He bought it. With government money. Then lied about it.

Unfortunately, Bluesky is unavailable in Mississippi right now, due to a new state law that requires age verification for all users.

While intended for child safety, we think this law poses broader challenges & creates significant barriers that limit free speech & harm smaller platforms like ours.
