The year is 2025. 2 of the 3 eligible hosts have substandard pitch situations for a possible MLS Cup Final. So does the lowest ranked remaining team…
With the MLS conference finals now set, the potential matchups for the Dec. 6 final are:

San Diego at Miami
Vancouver at Miami
NYC at San Diego
NYC at Vancouver

Discord now active enough to be more than a “benefit” - rarely lament the loss of OG twitter anymore
We’re running a Black Friday deal that is good through Dec. 1. We’re offering 20% off our two most popular membership plans:

- Supporter (normally $75): sounderatheartcom.outpost.pub/public/promo...
- Backer (normally $30): sounderatheartcom.outpost.pub/public/promo...

Two things can be true:
- Lloris has historically had a bad time at BC Place so comes off a complainer
- His comments 100% needed to be said.

If we really engage with it:
- Both teams were slipping way too much
- VAN were down to 9 men at the end because of the turf monster

It was conspicuous.

Whitecaps have lived and died by the margins in 2025:

- advanced twice on away goals in CCC, almost three times but for a 90+1 second leg goal
- advanced twice now in MLS Cup playoffs on a shootout after a draw

Missing Berhalter in CCC Final was a disaster. Will missing Blackmon be the same?

Buttoning up the 2025 MLS Season and including Round 1 minutes, Sounders ended on 69% of their minutes played by Americans. Crazy to consider that based on what we know so far about long term injuries and declined options and players waiting in the wings this number could rise again next year...

Ten minutes of watching zero off-ball movement and zero coordinated defending will tell you there is no “system” to speak of (or to defend for that matter). “Goblin-mode” is not repeatable tactics. Not the look of a “team.” Fory’s sub getting the red card was chefs kiss. Liability FC.
Quotes from Phil Neville postgame:

“It wasn’t about a system or a tactic it was mentality… that’s on me we need to be better.”

“There has to be massive Improvements to everything we do.”

“We picked players that were 100% and rewarded players that played on Saturday”

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

Rothrock was born for a game like this. He’s definitely gonna get a guy to throw a punch

Sounder came through it and turned the tables. Jesus has been doing so much good work. Minnesota looked tired already at minute 35. Gonna be a long one for them.
MNUFC has been stingy in the first 45' during the MLS regular season. Sounders have also been stingy to start except for a strangely shaky final 15' of the first half. With teams starting to tire ending that first half is also MNUFC's strongest scoring period. Maybe the most important 15' tomorrow?

One of the untold stories of the Brian Schmetzer-era Sounders is the degree to which he has had to chop-and-change lineups in the regular season and still peaks 50 points almost every year. Dusted off one of my slightly busy pandemic era graphics to help show 2025's contrast 2024 & 2023.

Paul Rothrock’s arc over the last year for Sounders is something else. From a nominal backup in Feb to national pundits now advocating for him to start a playoff game over a former DP who got two assists in the previous game.

Going into the postseason I called the question: Would Sounders be their fullest offensive selves or would they be haunted by letting teams back into the game? The answer last night was both. Oy.

probably won't make you happy to hear that Daniel Radford is the VAR
VAR declines to intervene. Wow.

What the fuck, Sounders.

So much happened this year. The red cards were a major topic but maybe not in the way they should have been? I spent some time re-evaluating the surface take on the Sounders’ summer ups and downs.

Reflected in the rank of their opponent's xPoints compared to the other games across that team's season Sounders kept other teams quiet down the stretch. Contrast to SD earning their best xPoints of 2025 and Salt Lake their 2nd best and MINN still somehow coming away with 3 points. 😖

For baseball October is the annual opportunity to tell stories, revisit records, name some guys and bask in the rich history of the sport. MLS doesn’t do any of that with their presentation and it’s a bummer. The deep and fun history of shootouts in MLS should be top of mind in the Bo3.
November 2, 2025 at 6:42 PM
Stef had a weird year but a good year so I get Schmetz backing him. You game plan to win in 90. 6 of his 8 MLS clean sheets are vs playoff teams. 7 saves vs SD. 3 Clean Sheets in the last 4 games all against playoff teams. Kinda have to show faith in your #1 when he’s playing like a #1…

The wrath of Zito be upon ye Minnesota United Football Club!
My position that the nerds are bad still holds up! Even as an Arsenal fan, who loves the irony of the team that used to be bullied on set pieces dominating them, you can always bet that once the goal becomes to solve the sport, the fun of it will be engineered out in service of math.

In theory ‘parity’ in this league should mean anything can happen on any night. In practice the leagues decisions often undermine the premise and actively make for a worse on-field product.
MLS's playoff schedule is truly idiotic.

It makes no sense that Charlotte/NYCFC played on Tuesday as the second-to-last game to open Round One and now those teams have to turn around and play Game 2 before anybody else.

3 days between games for those teams. 7 days for others.

Utter nonsense.
