Quick bit about me.

I'm an architecture grad with a few years practice and teaching under my belt.

2 years ago, I took a (temporary?) detour to join a team determined to prove Queensland could transition from petro state to electro state.

We showed it can be done, and it must be done.
Dutton ignored the rising tide, and it took him whole.

Thought this was appropriate to finally read while without power following tropical cyclone alfred having ventured to make landfall very, very far south of the tropics.
Hopefully not a recurring feat.

Spent today and yesterday making our place safe and helping out around town to prepare for a !!tropical cyclone!! on the Gold Coast.
Biggest concern was the carport which now has roofing screws (not just nails) holding the sheets down and some structural reinforcement to keep it upright.
Stay safe!

I'm sorry but why is the ABC sending notifications asking "Does the PM deserve to keep his job?"

We have an excess of commentary on the personalities of politics and a dearth of meaningful policy examination.

It's not a race, it's the future of our country. Can we please treat it like it matters?

Essentially we should trait AI like that over confident student who happens to be prone to plagiarism, oversimplification and occasionally outright fabrication.
If you know me, you know what I think of gen AI - it can automate some tasks and write decent code but can only ultimately rephrase the Internet.

Yesterday I was (lazy/time-poor) so I tried Cerebras' Llama-3.1 interface.

I think this is quite illustrative of gen AI chain-of-thought 🧵

The biggest risk to energy prices and reliability is ageing, unreliable coal fired power stations breaking down

The quicker we build new renewable energy and storage the better

Again, sounds just like the LNP who rejected free lunches for school kids as socialism but support making long lunches a tax write off for business.
check out that chyron. this is where we're at.

Again, we don't need to look to the US to see Trumpian plans unfolding.
The LNP in Queensland have stopped wind approvals, cut renewables investment, and poured billions into coal power in the 3 months since being elected.
They're not only delaying climate action but risk sending industry offshore.

We don't have to look to the US to find sickos fixated on young people's gender.
Queenslands LNP are full of them, and they're gleefully sacrificing a small marginalised group to press on with their culture wars.

The amazing thing about Peter Dutton's claim here is that while he make it sound like a difficult task, this would actually be a slower roll-out than what was likely achieved in Australia 2024.

A quick thread with numbers:

The big failure of this moment will be progressives not capitalising on this to gain support for massive electrification.
Vic prem set out an ambitious household electrification program. Fed MPs should be backing them in with more $$$ and vocal support.
Not only do we basically give our gas away for free, we don’t even keep enough for our own use 🤯

It’s just inconceivable that 🇦🇺 as one of the biggest LNG exporters will now start importing.

The major parties have failed us.

Time’s up? LNG imports destined for Australia next year
After years of warnings, importing gas looks to be the only way left to head off an energy shortfall in Victoria, a move likened to “importing sand to the Sahara”.

It is remarkable how bent the tech bros are.
Tic toc essentially fabricated its ban then salvation by Trump, so he can be painted a free speech hero to young users.
How do we combat that level of fasc orchestration?
Certainly not by relying on corruptable online spaces.
Meet your neighbours folks.

This is indeed diabolical.
Offsets for fossil fuel expansion are about one thing; greenwashing and prolonging fossil fuel use and expansion.
"It sounds too good to be true: a “carbon credits” scheme that could end native forest logging while generating billions of dollars in revenue and combating climate change.

And it sounds too good to be true because it is."

Imagine what $87m invested in active transport connections, bike parking, and bike/scooter subsidies!

I'm certain there are less expensive ways to get half a train load of passengers to the station.
The new Frankston station car park has opened. 500 additional spaces at a cost of $87 million = $174,000 per space, more than 4 times the cost of the average new car.
It's hard to imagine a more expensive way of getting people onto trains.🚆💰

Perfect for rendering any target, objective, commitment, plan, or other such notion to improve or do better worthless.

While Kevin notes it's normal for govts to fall behind, what concerns me is how far right the electorate has gone if the L-NP vote is at 38 given what Dutton represents.
#ResolvePM ALP 27 L-NP 38 Grn 12 ON 7 IND 11* other 5

* generic IND on readout everywhere, would not get this at election "held now"

2PP L-NP leads 51-49 (last election prefs)

Here we can see meta rolling out Duttons vision for Australia.

Nuclear is a distraction, it is a promise he will never deliver and given the time it would take do deliver, he can never be held account for not delivering it.

Duttons nuclear plan is a plan for a coal fired climate catastrophe.
Hello everyone, this is all playing out exactly as we warned: nuclear gets used as a rhetorical empty future promise while big tech companies actively and knowingly increase the climate damage they're enabling today
