Thought this was appropriate to finally read while without power following tropical cyclone alfred having ventured to make landfall very, very far south of the tropics.
Hopefully not a recurring feat.

Spent today and yesterday making our place safe and helping out around town to prepare for a !!tropical cyclone!! on the Gold Coast.
Biggest concern was the carport which now has roofing screws (not just nails) holding the sheets down and some structural reinforcement to keep it upright.
Stay safe!

Why is meta sending me recommendations to follow far right extremist politicians?

For the uptick in accounts proclaiming that 0.04% of something in the atmosphere can't possibly cause any meaningful effect on the climate.

Yep, the rollout of new solar in particular is stratospheric!

Worldwide in just 2 years, we added a whole terawatt, or 1,000,000,000 kilowatts of new solar globally.
It took 68 years to build the first TW, and we'll be going faster than a TW per year by 2030!

Telling of the LNP approach to government.
Ignore QPS figures that show rates on crime are historically low, ignore the damage of locking up ten year olds.
Ignore experts.

Good news is that on the current path, we'll use less gas in the future electricity grid than we do today. ISP shows gas power generation dropping as renewables, batteries and hydro replace fossil fuels.

This is great news and the investment is well and truly paying off.
@cleanenergycouncil.bsky.social neatly sums up the amount of emissions saved, and what we'll save by getting to 82% RE compared to coal.
So far, RE avoids 75MT/y
With 82% RE by 2030, we'll save 180MT/y!

This extends to traffic cops in Queensland. In 2015, a cop got their unmarked camry stuck on the sundale light rail bridge.

Set a good example for the drunk driver who followed suit later that same arvo.

My father-in-law is a builder. It is difficult to get his attention in a magnificent space because he is lost in wonder. We were in a cathedral together years ago and I asked him what it would cost to build it today. I will never forget his answer…

“We can’t, we don’t know how to do it.”

Fuck. Two 4wd just ran a red light, almost running my dog over.

The first clearly sped to try (it failed) catch the yellow, I saw it and held Charlie back.

By the second, she was on the road with me, the driver had no intention of stopping for the red. I had to yank her back, making her yelp.

Back home from two weeks in Japan to reset after our own conservative backslide into climate inaction here in Queensland.

Goodbye to the cesspit of the bad place, hello to positive communtiy building and pushing forward to bring about the social change and climate action we need.
