Thanks to all for your kind remembrances on this awful day. Words will come later. Only feelings at the moment. Mourn and remember him but don’t forget to celebrate too. We won’t see his like again. The man from another place has gone home. #DavidLynch #TwinPeaks

Think this is where I am with my beliefs towards the specific bill - we need investment in end of life care first before we start discussing euthanasia.

Our society is not in a fit enough state at the moment for it to be legalised without people being coerced.

I support in theory - not reality.
I’ll be voting against the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill today.

This deeply sensitive issue demands rigorous safeguards and investment in palliative care to protect vulnerable people.

It's astonishing in how many areas the last government's response to difficult problems was just to abandon governing: to stop processing asylum claims, stop setting realistic budgets, ignore critical warnings from the prison system, and ultimately scuttle the ship by bringing forward the election.
This is what the increase in decisions and interviews following the election looks like. The drop off in May, June and July was because the Illegal Migration Act had prevented officials from processing any claims. The new government undid that, getting the system going again.

Incredibly grim. And there are boroughs in London where more than 10% of children are homeless.

We desperately need more housing in the capital, of all kinds.
NEW: The number of homeless children living in temporary accommodation in England has risen AGAIN to 159,380 - up 15% in a year.

Transient lives in temporary homes, defined by uncertainly, doing untold damage.

It is a scandal. But it’s not new. And it’s not going away.

The online ecosystem has had a role in radicalising young people and old.

It now is also responsible for making Trumpism the norm while ostracising actual sensible voices.

It’s not just the traditional media rigged against the left but social media too.
This is infuriating.

"It never happened because the show 'didn’t want to delve into politics'... the Harris team got that reaction nearly 'across the board' when trying to book [Harris] on the same types of non-political media that happily welcomed Trump.

Of course it’s the Boomers who most agree they should be able to sing.
Is it ok to sing along at the cinema during a musical? Moviegoers in the US have been asked not to sing during screenings of Wicked, but Dwayne The Rock Johnson has publicly disagreed

Britons tend to think singing should not be permitted, however, by 48% to 34%

Every reply to every tweet on a big politics account seems so hateful. It’s not from a place of disagreement - it comes from a place of disgust, hate and vengeance. That’s how fascism occurs. Once the big football accounts migrate over - I’m staying here and deleting Twitter.

They’re envious they’re not going to get their fascist in the UK at the same time the US has there’s. By 2029, Trump will be gone most likely and a Dem will win after the mess made.
It’s very funny that the British hard right have gone from mocking petitions to furious at the suggestion that their petition isn’t going to bring down a government with a 150+ seat majority.

It’s going to be a very long 5 years for those people.

Just about the only interesting thing about the echo chamber thinking of those now promoting a petition to hold another General Election after 5 months is that it illuminates the lack of priority now given to thinking about why the parties of the right lost the last General Election

Since this app has launched, Twitter beyond my actual feed has become unusable. It’s full of far-right grifters, bots, porn bots, crypto grifters and probably Russian assets. Like every reply to every tweet even discussing politics.

I’m very suspicious about the effectiveness of the microtargeting of Trump campaign ads in suppressing the Dem vote. Is it true that the new T&C allowed the mass harvesting of X user data? Wouldn’t this have been just as effective as the Cambridge Analytica hack of 75m users?

I did my MA diss on how conspiracy theories played a role in far-right radicalisation in the US during Covid.

Unfortunately since I wrote my diss, the problem had got worse. This thread perfectly sums that up.
1/ 🚨 Conspiracy theories about the 2024 election miss the bigger picture.

The truth? It wasn’t one night, one hack, or one fraud. It was a system rigged in plain sight – right in front of us. The playbook was out in the open for years. But hardly anyone paid attention.

Here’s how they did it... 🧵
