I keep thinking that the Trump administration's ultimate goal is a network of paramilitaries.
NEW: ICE is planning to build a shadow deportation network in Texas. A proposal outlines a 24/7 transport operation run by armed contractors—turning Texas into the logistical backbone of an industrialized deportation machine.

WOW! The Washington Post obtained the rest of the body cam footage showing that the drunk-driving ICE agent promised to check if the arresting officer's partner was Haitian. "I’m going to run some checks when I get back." He added that he would have him deported if "not legit."

ICE is stockpiling arms, including chemical weapons, guided missile warheads and explosive components. The spending dwarfs anything we've ever seen in the agency - a 700% increase.

The President is building an army to attack his own country.

Kimmel was fired for criticizing the president. That milk toast white man said nothing about Charlie Kirk.

This is just authoritarianism 101.

I've lived it. I know.

Wake the fuck up America.

IMPORTANT PERSPECTIVE: What I have not seen anyone discussing is that Nexstar pulling Kimmel, forcing ABC’s hand, comes as Nexstar is leading the way for the industry on trying to get FCC approval for media consolidation. www.poynter.org/business-wor...
Nexstar’s takeover of Tegna would require an overhaul of FCC ownership rules - Poynter
The proposed sale would exceed the FCC’s 39% cap, igniting debate among broadcasters, unions and press groups

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

A free and democratic society cannot silence comedians because the President doesn’t like what they say.

This is an attack on free speech and cannot be allowed to stand.

All elected officials need to speak up and push back on this undemocratic act.

One of the early outrages in the Red Scare was Truman’s EO asserting that “sympathetic association” with communist groups was grounds for being fired from a federal job.

That was bad enough, but now they’re saying alien residents can be deported for what they claim are their “expected beliefs”
Imagine trying to deport someone for their "expected beliefs"

It has been 18 days since we learned that those involved in Signalgate recklessly endangered the lives of American pilots.

The fact that there has been no Congressional investigation is an abomination.

This should outrage every single Member of Congress.

The fear among academics and lawyers now talking on the record on just about any topic that involves the federal government or the White House is really extraordinary and worrisome, and getting worse, it seems to me, every week. Dissent by an establishment figures becoming verboten in the US

This story gets so much worse. The trans woman who she refused to fence only finished in 24th place. Stephanie, the forfeiter, also beat *multiple* cis men in a regional match just one week earlier! And conservatives just paid her $5k for her kneel. Why is nobody talking about this?

Going to keep saying: a society that wants to keep its basic functioning has to discourage lying. rewarding it instead is suicidal
big lesson for america here: one reason you dont elect people who believe bull shit like "theyre eating the pets" or "theyre putting kitty litter boxes in the classrooms" is bc if they get in power theyll believe bull shit like "tariffs are a tax cut actually"

Breaking: Sen. Richard Blumenthal says he plans to place a hold on ALL Trump nominees going forward.

This will force Republicans to hold individual votes to override each hold, which will severely slow down their agenda.

There's something weird happening where The Discourse about the tariffs is about how Trump is trying to return us to 1950's and 1960's, the manufacturing heyday of America, but he's not! He' been very very explicit about this. He wants to return us to the 1890's. That's a different project!

I think the Supreme Court got the law badly wrong tonight. But beyond that, it’s just incredibly ominous that Roberts would throw Boasberg under the bus and hand Trump this big win when his administration has conducted this case in EXTREME bad faith from the start. slate.com/news-and-pol...

In El Salvador, you can be jailed as a gang member for having a tattoo, even though today, actual gang members are discouraged from having tattoos. The heavily tattooed prisoners you see in Bukele’s propaganda videos are middle age lifers arrested years ago under past governments.

Reminder: We are not at war with Venezuela. The people deported are not enemies. The law in question should not apply. Among the most dangerous aspects of the SCOTUS ruling is the idea that the president and his people have the right to arbitrarily determine who our enemies are.

Would require a significant investment and money but would be a great idea.
When a person is abducted, there's a number to call to report & identify. A habeas petition challenging the abduction is electronically filed in that district, by a lawyer admitted in that district, within 30 minutes of the call. Anywhere in the country, 24 hours a day.

Nothing else is good enough.
hello! i am very curious if anybody is building a rapid response network to file habeas shell petitions for nice people before ice can take them out of state?

All I keep thinking about is that if/when Dems regain power, every action to restore normality or basic functioning of governmental institutions will be covered by the national press like it’s a controversial, partisan power play on par with a coup.

The government is snatching people off the streets and shipping them to foreign prisons from which, the government claims, they can never be extracted. All with no due process. It’s as bad as it gets. And this court is again avoiding the reality of what’s happening at all costs.
The majority writing that individuals need due process and notice and an opportunity to file a habeas petition is nice. But it reads to me as partially designed to take the sting off the majority’s brutal order - while not altering its horrifying substance all that much.

Can we stop calling these atrocities "deportations." These people sold to El Salvadorian prisons were not deported. Deportation is a process that did not take place. They were rounded up and removed with no process. They were kidnapped, not deported.
