Once again it’s not that conservatives deny the existence of racism, they merely deny the existence of racism against minorities.

«The point is not to decode these fragments into a coherent worldview. It is to see that confusion itself was the method. … Robinson’s casings were less about explanation than performance: designed to bait, to mislead, to invite interpretation while refusing resolution.»

According to the authors, the disparity is largely driven by higher death rates among the middle-aged.

Seniors are 18% more likely to die in the US than other rich countries; people under 65 are 85% more likely to die.

Super interesting deep dive into US excess mortality. We're doing better than we were in 1980 but a *lot* worse than every other high-income country.

It doesn't make profits, and possibly never will, but it makes billionaires.

But don't you dare call it a bubble.

Every rich person is going to tell *you* how great AI teaching is while sending *their* kids to the kind of schooling the Ancient Greeks would recognize. I just wish everyone would think about why that is.
I think we’re on the cusp of mass attempts to automate teaching, and I also think it is going to be a massive wasteful failure in ways that will make the “learning loss” of the pandemic look like a speed bump next to a mountain.

This past semester was the most stressful of my academic career. I had 180 students and about half cheated at some point in the semester

They submit weekly reflections where the questions are opinion-based, graded only on effort, don't care about grammar

SO MANY students submitted ChatGPT essays

A computação surge como a automação do controlo [1]. E qualquer automação pressupõe que se perca controlo - humano - sobre o que é produzido, não porque a máquina perca o controlo mas porque a máquina foi desenhada para tal

I’m not even sure how “AI” is a distinct phenomena from “big data”, rather than a continuation of literally the same systems, technical practices, social assemblages, economic logics, social harms, etc, just with slightly more advanced algorithms that also continue on from what was already in use

A tentar racionalizar as tarifas americanas. Duas possibilidades:

1. Temporárias para comprarem o dip e quick cash

ou

2. Efectivamente para transferir indústrias para os EUA. Para serem competitivas vão ser altamente automatizadas

No final não há benefícios para a classe trabalhadora (surprise)

I am happy to peer-review articles for scientific journals for free. However, I am not motivated to complete repetitive drop-down menus at every stage of the revision process. Even when managing manuscripts as an editor, I prefer semi-structured reviews over standardized drop-down menu selections.
