This morning we gathered with friends, family, and neighbors to honor Blake. He was killed by a driver while riding on Fountain Avenue in West Hollywood. We will honor his memory by continuing to fight for safer streets for everyone.

Karen Bass plans to further abandon the city's responsibilities to its residents, scrapping all street and transportation projects except those directly related to upcoming megaevents. If the city can't provide the bare minimum to its residents, it should not be hosting the Olympics.
Here's CM Bob Blumenfield asking if the mayor's budget means LADOT work around Olympics venues would be prioritized over streets and sidewalks in his district.

LADOT GM Laura Rubio-Cornejo responds yes, Olympics venues would be the priority, and likely the *only* thing the department could deliver

This is an outrageous policy change. Also, if you’re gonna do this then you gotta do it for drivers, too right? Given those are obviously far far more dangerous vehicles.

Policy Change: NYPD Will Write Criminal Summonses, Not Traffic Tickets, for Cyclists - Streetsblog New York City
Quietly, the NYPD has changed policy and will now make criminal cases against cyclists who go through red lights, a change that will have predictable and unpredictable ramifications.

In LA we have our own Elon Musk, Ticketmasters's Fred Rosen, who is spending the few years that he has left on this planet doing all he can to block a much-need transit project that would better connect the valley to the rest of the city, with a station at one of the region's largest employers.

Private golf courses are bankrupting Los Angeles.

Props 6 & 13 give colossal tax breaks to golf clubs and our tax dollars are subsidizing the operations of these exclusive enclaves. Let's compare assessed values of prominent golf courses and nearby properties.

So many great bills hitting Sacramento this year!
We’ve been hard at work in Sacramento preparing our legislative package for the year, and we’re proud to announce our 2025 bills! Here’s what we’re running this year ⬇️

This is how you confront a housing crisis: Cambridge ends exclusionary zoning by allowing 6-story multifamily housing citywide
I can’t believe it - after years of advocacy, exclusionary zoning has ended in Cambridge.

We just passed the single most comprehensive rezoning in the US—legalizing multifamily housing up to 6 stories citywide in a Paris style

Here’s the details 🧵

Mexico City’s weekly 35-mile ciclovía was a sight to see. We rode from La Condesa to the historic center, and up and down Paseo de la Reforma. Super well organized and accessible. Nothing beats riding across the city with thousands of others, without a car in sight.

The future Metro K line extension has the potential to improve life in weho in a huge way 🚇 🚲🚶
Nice to see some coverage of our work to improve pedestrian and bicycle connections to future Metro K Line North stations in #WeHo! The City Council will consider the draft FLM Early Assessment Plan on Monday. 🚇 🚲🚶 la.urbanize.city/post/west-ho...

Seeing many opportunistic rent increases on LA Zillow. A lot of landlords have raised rents by precisely 9.9%, the maximum gouging allowed by CA law after a disaster. Also seeing way too many illegal 10%+ rent increases this week. Even noticed a fair bit of laughably immoral 60%+ price gouging.

For the January/February issue of @motherjones.com, I wrote a column on the importance of making walkable cities accessible, especially as disabled people are more likely to not drive and take public transit. www.motherjones.com/environment/...
Do car-free zones hurt disabled people? We asked experts.
City planners and advocates are seeing "accessibility used as a political football."

Forest Lawn Dr is a key connector to Griffith Park, but it’s also a dangerous street where drivers regularly speed with impunity.

The city has a plan to improve safety for all.

Normally inaction at the level of local government is blamed on a lack of funding... but the city of LA has only spent a fraction of the $1.3B allocated to this year's efforts to address homelessness and build affordable housing. Over $500 million has gone unspent. homelessdashboard.lacontroller.app
