I’m sick and tired of the lack of intellectual diversity on Bluesky. We need to hear both sides of the Dying Of Food-Borne Illnesses debate
These stories landed today, within 11 hours of each other.

This presidential administration is a clear and present danger to the American people.

Our higher education system is so good that people from across the world willingly spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to learn here, and the right (which won’t shut up about “trade deficits”) has decided this is a bad thing
international students are a lynchpin of the finances of many universities - they pay full-freight tuition and are not eligible for most types of financial aid - its hard not to read this as a particularly cruel and callous part of the right's attempt to defund and destroy America's universities.
New, from me: Marco Rubio used to boast that he was banned from China, calling it a totalitarian state.

Now he combines a) new surveillance capabilities to monitor and punish international students, with b) little accountability or due process. 🧵

I love paying TurboTax a few hundred bucks every year to figure out how much money I owe the government, which the government already knows, but won't tell me because TurboTax pays legislators to keep the government from telling me. 😻

I suppose the task force created by this EO will start by investigating the Vice President’s statements attacking Catholic bishops, the leader of DOGE accusing Lutheran Family Services of money laundering, ICE raids on churches … so much work already on anti-Christian bias from this administration.

The key conflict that defines American politics is not over whether government should play a role in helping people. As these Trump supporters confirm, there is actually a broad consensus that it absolutely should!

The real fault line is defined by who counts as “people” - who “deserves” help?
What’s up with Trump supporters who swear he *would never* touch the government assistance they rely on?

I agree the information environment in which U.S. politics unfolds plays a big role. But there are also ideological factors at work: A deep-seated view of who is “deserving” and who is not.
"low-income Americans who voted for Trump say they are counting on him to keep their benefits intact"

Do you laugh? Cry? Mock? Sympathize? I genuinely don't know.
