Getting solar panels and a heat pump has been one of the most uplifting “hobbies” I’ve been spending my time and energy on since 2020.

The idea of being energy independent for the second half of my life, both at home and nationally, is the most profound life change I could not have foreseen.
I'm pretty sure that at this point in time, the remaining opposition to renewables are nothing but the tantrums of those with interest in fossil fuels and/or could not get the logic of "there's no cost to obtaining the fuel" to sink into the brain.
Hell yeah: @science.org's official Breakthrough of the Year for 2025 is ... [drumroll] ...

... the unstoppable rise & spread of renewable energy.

Heat pumps don’t burn fossil fuels, but instead pull warmth from the air or ground. Even in freezing climates they stay more efficient than gas or oil systems, and some of the world’s coldest countries have the most heat pumps per household. 🔥⚡️

Car-centric design hurts people in small towns just like in big cities.

I saw this old lady cross this busy road on her walker because the direct trip (nursing home to Tim Horton’s) was 100 metres, versus 1 kilometre to walk up the road, cross at a light, and come back.

This Guy Bought A Chevy Bolt EV. Next: Driving It 8,000 Miles To The Arctic Ocean
If a Chevy Bolt can do it, just about any EV can do it. The Bolt has slower charging speeds and less range than most EVs, but it's aiming for the Arctic anyway.

Electric vehicle batteries are more efficient at lower speeds — which, with electricity prices rising, could make us finally slow down.
