Just here working at the posting factory. Meeting my 30% CanCon quota. A mix of being angry at the current state of affairs, transit, urbanism, design and shitposting. Anti-fascist (not affiliated with any organizations)

Given that things are about to get really tough and dangerous it’s important to remember this….

If you think you see someone undertaking radical ant-fascist or anti-capitalist acts, no you didn’t.

Don’t post about it. Don’t talk about it. Just shut the fuck up and move on with your day.
Ideally I’d like to do a matrix so that you could compare the cost of various options, like standard pink insulation vs spray foam, etc. As well as costs for various things that could be DIY’d (painting, flooring installation, etc) just to see if there are ways to make it cheaper.
I am on a mission to find out how much it would cost, for materials and labour, to build a simple working class home like this in Ontario, today. This is all I want/need and I genuinely wonder how cheap you make it happen for.

more and more countries are going to see that getting off foreign oil imports is a great reason to accelerate electrification and renewables buildout, regardless of what it means for the climate
The energy transition happens often in unlikely places at unprecedented rates.

Take Nepal: Over the past year, electric vehicles accounted for 76 percent of all passenger vehicles and half of the light commercial vehicles sold in Nepal.

Five years ago, that number was essentially zero.

I think I might be done with transit, urbanism & cities in general

Its basically impossible to be working class & live in a city. And there’s zero desire among any political party to change that

Truth is if urban living is an unattainable dream theres little reason to care cities & transit anymore

This is from a few weeks ago but after Kingston and Brockville started to vocally raise serious concerns about the state of VIA on the lakeshore. The post is by the City of Belleville but it was actually a joint survey that included Kingston, Cobourg and Port Hope.

Everytime I think I have my timeline down to an acceptable level of American news it somehow gets infected like a virus and becomes flooded with it again. I don’t want to have to reduce my follow list to 7 accounts but it’s kind of feeling like that’s what’ll take at this point lol

I recently took VIA Rail for the first time in almost 6 years after giving up on it because service had become so bad. I thought maybe the new trains will make it nicer. Maybe it won’t be too bad going to Ottawa since VIA at least owns half the track. Maybe I was being too harsh. I wasn’t…

One year later, this is even more true and accurate.
Accidents by Alexisonfire is not only a certified banger, and probably their best song, but has the perfect energy for this moment in time.

The NDP struggling to attract young people isn’t new. If you think about the past 25 years of federal politics in Canada the most successful activation of young people wasn’t the Layton era NDP, it was Justin Trudeau in 2015. It’s a genuinely abysmal track record and failure of the party.
And lets be real. If the @ndp.ca doesnt even have the juice to keep 38 year old Canadian Bluesky soc dems interested & engaged, how the f are they going to get people under 35 excited (which they desperately need to do to stay alive). Be bold. Be angry. Be anything with even a hint of personality

The transition away from oil and into EVs and renewable energy (mainly solar) will be a bumpy, uneven, often messy affair. But China seems poised to make the next couple years the most disruptive oil and gas have ever seen. The scale and momentum of their transition is pretty wild
"Far from a peak, China's gasoline demand is estimated to have fallen 9% in October on the year to 12.5 million tons, with average daily use roughly flat with September..."

China's oil demand is entering structural decline.
EVs put an end to China's usual holiday surge in gasoline use
Tianyu Jiang took a 2,000-km (1,200-mile) road trip this month during China's national holiday week, driving in his electric vehicle from the southwestern Sichuan basin to Beijing for the first time.

I wonder if @ndp.ca have even bothered to spend time on Bluesky and see exactly what Canadian social democrats are saying about them, and the left in general. Basically every soc dem on here wants to support them. But they are just so juiceless, aimless and offer up nothing.
Idk what annoys me more, the fact that the Canadian left is once again dropping everything to chase of the coattails of the latest magic yankee, or the fact that Mamdani’s win is being treated as the vindication of the same bloodless ‘positivity’ that’s won the NDP 0 of the last 20 elections.

If you are travelling on the 401 between Napanee and Kingston, in either direction, be prepared. There are at least a dozen accidents and conditions aren’t getting any better.

I’m seeing a lot more comments like this lately from Democrats/Liberals/Labour and I just have to say they can fuck right off.

Yeah, specific memes like that are hyperbole. But trying to say life for young people isn’t more difficult today? Sure man. Try running on that message…

🇨🇦 Eurovision:
- Eurovision confirmed they're in early negotiation with the CBC
- CBC confirmed the broadcaster picks the artists
- Canada is already an associate member of the EBU like Australia

TIL that Mister Donut, a chain I remember as a Canadian kid and haven’t seen or thought about in decades, still operates in Japan. And it still has the old logo!
Mister Donut is usually a rare find during our Japan trips, but Kanazawa delivered

I fucking hate that every time a poll like this comes out I’m left with the thought “Im glad the liberals get it” lol

As someone who will probably be out of a job soon yeah, I get it, slower economic growth is shitty. But also, if we dont decouple from the US asap it’ll only get worse down the road
Those who agree - "I am willing to accept slower economic growth in Canada if it means greater economic independence from the United States"

🟢 All: 70%

🟢 Liberals: 86%
🟢 NDP: 77%
🟢 Conservatives: 55%

Bluesky really needs two default settings. One for Americans so that the Bsky team can be bootlicking fascists and prudes in their home country. And another for everyone outside the US who aren’t offended if they accidentally see a titty or a “dangerous” post. We can use the block button. We’re fine
exactly- if you restrain your algorithm to disappearing actually dangerous/bad/etc posts then great, everyone will use it

when you expand it to police abstract concepts like "rude" or "suggestive", especially when your judgment is prudish & questionable, you seriously weaken the system
What really sucks is that the decision by the bsky team to do this has made people feel like they need to opt out of moderation tools
