Just here working at the posting factory. Meeting my 30% CanCon quota. A mix of being angry at the current state of affairs, transit, urbanism, design and shitposting. Anti-fascist (not affiliated with any organizations)

This is from a few weeks ago but after Kingston and Brockville started to vocally raise serious concerns about the state of VIA on the lakeshore. The post is by the City of Belleville but it was actually a joint survey that included Kingston, Cobourg and Port Hope.

I need to confirm this is legit because I’ve never seen this before. But apparently this is a CN ticket office on Soarks Street in Ottawa sometime in the 1960’s. I want this to be real because…well…just look at it!

If Carney can pull off getting Canada into Eurovision I will be forced to hate him 5% less. But that does mean finding a new reason for flipping Teslas.

There are a lot of reasons I want the #BlueJays to take it all. This is one of them

Without downloading anything, where are you at mentally right now?

I’d reply to Taylor directly but she has quote posts turned off lol

When banks invent new ways to do crime and fraud, you regulate them so they can’t.

When cars became extremely dangerous seatbelts and airbags were mandated.

So what do you do when social media has become a fascism machine?

I’m not going to say the plan for the Kanata golf course is perfect. It will have 1400 homes including some apartments but ideally it would be denser and include a lot more plexes. But at the same time it’s still a 3000 person infill in suburbia and a victory against NIMBYs so that’s still something

There was a brief period of time when VIA Rail ran a few buses (mostly to get people from Ottawa station to downtown and Hull). This is the first photo I’ve seen of them and I have to say, they look better than all the trains from that era (except for the LRC which still remains a banger)

Earlier today I made a comment that any transit that isn’t a bus, tram or regional rail should be a Skytrain (whether it’s elevated, on the ground or in a tunnel).

I would just like to say I’m doubling down on that statement. Long live the transit perfection known as Skytrain.

This doesn’t just sum up understanding the housing affordability issue. It describes so many aspects of Canadian cities. They are…different. Theyre complex & inconvenient. The photo of the Yonge St corridor is a perfect example. It’s TOD, but supercharged. And on the surface it looks kind of silly.

Every now and then I come across a photo I saved and wonder “why did I save that”. This cover from a 1982 issue of Commodore Computer Club from Italy still leaves me with so many questions. Maybe I saved it to follow up on it one day? Who knows. This one is more fun knowing nothing about the context

Seeing that photo of Brockville station reminded me how lucky the town got having it restored instead of a new one built. These were the two original station designs that were planned. But the backlash was so strong they were abandoned pretty quickly.

What is a movie from your childhood that you’ve watched recently knowing it was going to not hold up and be horrible, yet you were still shocked at how bad it was?

For me, it was The Cannonball Run. Wasn’t funny or entertaining. Some great actors wasted. Most of the cars are boring. Truly awful

One of the frustrating things with Metrolinx and GO is that sometimes they show that they can competently manage projects that will have a meaningful impact. The Union south concourse is an example. In Spring 2022 they started track removal and utility relocation….

Using one photo already on your phone, what is the announcement tomorrow at 2?
September 2, 2025 at 3:47 AM
To balance that out with some normie content, here is a llama I saw today. It’s an asshole. More then happy to hang out by the fence until I took out my phone to take a picture. Then it would bolt away and come back as soon as put my phone in my pocket. Fuck you llama. You’re officially on notice

Update. I did see otters. 3 of them to be exact. But they were far away and barely emerged from the water. So the picture is heavily zoomed in and even then you can only really see them if you know where to look. But it was still exciting to know eastern Ontario otters are in fact a real thing!

Apparently there are otters n Eastern Ontario. And apparently they show up in this creek regularly. Seems like a perfect day to hang out a while and see if they appear

And just because it’s on my mind, here is an example from Restore Island Rail on what *not* to do. I mean just look at this. Absolutely cursed vibes all around and it does nothing to get people excited and activated to participate and advocate. 0/10. Yikesville. Do not recommend

Nostalgia has always been kind of cursed. But the subtext for what we see today isnt even subtle. Im never sure how to respond it to it all (I almost always just ignore it). But sometimes I really just want to post some counter-revolutionary nostalgia just to let’em know many people arent having it

….well. I finally found a photo of an interior as they were originally and I think I was wrong lol. I still want to find some better images but it appears these stations had all the charm of a hospital hallway inside. A few should be preserved, but I also see why there isn’t much love for them

For a while I’ve been a bit obsessed with a collection of 1950s modernist CNR stations in eastern Ontario. Photos of the exteriors in the 50s and 60s are not common but from what I saw they looked rather good. And in my mind I always imagined the interiors would be quite lovely and charming…

With a little work the CNSA logo could be a banger. If it was in red and yellow like it’s flag it would get bonus points for socialist vibes.
