Short novella that was recommended by an English prof. I’ve taken to listening to novels and love the local library’s catalogue on Libby and Hoopla. Highly recommend these apps if you haven’t used them. #Novels #SupportLocalLibraries

Christians quoting Romans 13 in political debate is like loudly proclaiming your love of a Thomas Kincaid you spotted hidden among a wall of Monet.

Unsurprising and disgusting.
This is first reported ICE raid at a church. It came five days after the Trump admin. revoked a policy that, for 13 years, had ordered ICE officers to avoid making arrests at houses of worship and other “sensitive locations.”

The immigrant was here legally. www.christianitytoday.com/2025/01/shou...

In Atlanta, immigration agents arrested a Honduran man outside the church he helped plant. Is it an isolated case or the start of a trend?

This is really a cool resource, and Englewood Review offers some great recommendations for books in general.

I’ll be checking this out for future weeks of preaching. (This week is Candlemas for us, so it’s a different set of texts)
We have a great lineup of poems this week! Each week we curate a list of poems that resonate with the lectionary texts for the coming Sunday. Check it out-- https://buff.ly/3CCzjxB

I decided to revisit Parable of the Sower, which tells you two things about me:

1) I have great taste.

2) My timing is terrible.

And don’t forget this beauty- Saint John Chrysostom and Empress Eudoxia. I think this photo was taken right before she booted him out of the city for criticizing her…

Not to mention the very political register of the Gospel. It ain’t about flying away from your body when you die, folks.
You know someone has only ever read a handful of out-of-context scriptures is when they condemn Bishop Budde for confronting a governing official, as if “getting political” in that way is transparently inappropriate. If they actually read this Bible they claim is divinely inspired, they'd realize+

Preached this morning on Jesus’ sermon (Luke 4) that riled up the congregation so much they wanted to drop him off a cliff. Totally unrelatable.
