For political hacks like myself, 'put it in the curriculum' is the oldest and hattiest of old hat policy ideas.

Why do we think schools should solve all our problems? What if we thought differently about life skills and civic education?

The BBC are accidentally running the subtitles to Mrs Marple over the Mercury Prize, and it’s rather wonderful. A few of lines could plausibly have been written by Jarvis.

In a Maths meeting, we were discussing whether manipulatives (such as algebra tiles) are allowed in GCSE Maths exams? If not, can you state where this is written in the JCQ regulations? #Mathstoday

In addition to some maps, I've been doing a commissioned drawing this week. There's more to do around the edges, but the main part -- the bear and the dragon -- are just about done.

didn't have time to stop and take a picture because I was running late but there was a crab on the pavement on the way to Lewisham station earlier tonight

if you left your whole crab by Lewisham station don't worry, it's still there

It's fascinating because the stories here are... exactly the opposite of what industry data is showing, which is that hiring is strong, translation jobs are growing and diversifying, and in fact it's one of the fastest growing professions in the uS right now.

One for @mjrobbins.com and @jamesomalley.co.uk #AI 10% better or transformative tech....
Since 2023, translators and interpreters have seen work dry up, rates plummet and their jobs reduced to editing AI-generated output. Some are leaving the field, others are considering bankruptcy. All despite any major upgrade in translation quality.

This is how AI is killing translation work:
AI Killed My Job: Translators
Few industries have been hit by AI as hard as translation. Rates are plummeting. Work is drying up. Translators are considering abandoning the field, or bankruptcy. These are their stories.

Anthropic’s copyright case is amazing stuff. On paper, a judge ruled almost everything their way: scanning and digitisation books is fine, and using that to train AI is, too, he ruled.

BUT: because they used pirated books, they could be on the hook for *billions* in damages…
Anthropic’s piracy could make its copyright battle existential
Anthropic could have to pay billions in damages — and others may follow

Fascinating
Here's a fact for you all.

Prior to 2017 there was not a single documented case of any individual travelling by small boats across the English Channel to caim asylum in the UK.

Not ONE.

This current 'boats' crisis has been largely caused by Brexit.

But for some reason NOBODY is saying that.
