If you want to sell me a next-gen console, just fill its games with loads more little boxes and pots and crates for me to punch into pieces as I pootle about the place.

I'm that easy to please.

Can't believe how terrible London's becoming, IPC and Gorgon City played a storefront gig in Farringdon AND I MISSED IT.

Even the roving death sqauds (sic) wouldn't have put me off.

Rise Of The Ronin doing that thing where you think, oh nice, the world is big but not *that* big, maybe I'll have a chance to collec-- SURPRISE!!! The map is actually three times bigger than initially appears. Sigh.

I think this stopped being the nice kind of surprise back in 2011 or so.

It’s difficult to overstate just how pumped me and my friends were for Batman in 1989. Just that teaser poster alone had us in giddy with excitement. Just as Roger Moore is my Bond, Keaton is my Batman. Looking back it’s all a bit patchy, but we didn’t care at the time.

What does the symbolic death of physical videogame retail mean to you, and how many times did you hide in bed, sobbing uncontrollably?

Finally! PlayStation has re-added screenshots to its web store. Between that and the user ratings, now barely any need to fire up YouTube in order to start sussing a game out.

Rise of the Ronin deserves 10/10 simply for giving you an equipment bag that has room for 2,000 items.

I played every Trials game that hit console, but none hit quite so hard as Trials HD on Xbox 360 in 2009.

It's the only Trials game where I'd successfully completed one of highest-difficulty tracks.

Tom Hanks’ name may be above the title, but Joe Dante was the real draw. Like Sam Raimi, he was one of those directors that my film-loving friends and I gravitated towards. Apparently this originally had a much darker ending until Hanks was cast — would have loved to have seen that version too.

If you tried to explain Vampire Survivors before Vampire Survivors actually came out, imagine the all tutting. People rolling their eyes hard enough to unscrew their face.

Eugene and Larry's Defender is an all-time great that very few people can actually play. Via namedropping and boasting about my retro collection, I attempt to explain why it's absolutely incredible.

I love the symbolism of press photos of London. Looming monument! Large, shiny, faceless buildings! Anonymous silhouettes!

Actual people still live here, of course.

GYAC, there's a Boots just on the left, and just behind you is great underground M&S (although closed for refurb until March, boo!)

Apparently this film didn’t even get a theatrical release in North America, but from the producer of Star Wars, the director of Tron, and starring @markhamillofficial.bsky.social , you can imagine how excited we were to see it in 1989.

The greatest achievement in product placement in all of cinema must surely be the ubiquitous nature of the Uzi in 80s movies. It's a gun I've never seen used or mentioned beyond this context* yet there's an average of 12 people dual-wielding them per film.

The 2024 remake of Silent Hill 2 is certainly accomplished, but fell flat for me due to it feeling so relentlessly action-based. Basically 12 hours of shooting scampering mannequins, that ultimately muscled many other sensations out of the picture.
