LLMs excel at finding surprising “needles” in very long documents, but can they detect when information is conspicuously missing?

🫥AbsenceBench🫥 shows that even SoTA LLMs struggle on this task, suggesting that LLMs have trouble perceiving “negative spaces”.

This is a key reason to de-Americanise the tech you use, as much as possible

(And yes, it’s almost impossible to do it completely - but it’s worth at least reducing, especially for services like email, messaging, health, anything personal)
"The US is now claiming that if you’re on the internet and using a service provided by a US tech company then Donald Trump sets the rules. The US is quietly declaring sovereignty over cyberspace and expecting the world to acquiesce, making an unprecedented digital landgrab in the name of freedom."
Donald Trump’s digital landgrab
His attempt to grab control of the internet is perhaps the biggest threat of all

I also do not understand the point of this ad or how it makes AI look good. Wouldn’t the restaurant move the reservation to inside if it’s raining that hard? Wouldn’t *he* asked to be moved inside if they didn’t? Why does no human have any agency in this ad? Was that stolen by AI as well?
The most baffling commercial I have ever seen in my life. What does this mean? How is this a problem anyone has, ever? What does your product even do?????

Such powerful words. Biden quotes Eisenhower’s ‘military industrial complex’ & then christens what’s happening as the ‘tech industrial complex’.

‘The free press is crumbling…truth is being smothered by lies’
Biden: "Americans are being buried under an avalanche of misinformation and disinformation, enabling the abuse of power ... the truth is smothered by lies."

That little countdown on 2FA apps stresses the shit out of me. I feel like I'm diffusing a bomb.

If it gets into the red, I just wait. I can't handle the stress.

i bitch about it a lot but React Native is awesome. if you’re a native engineer you might feel skeptical, but it isn’t a lowest common denominator crossplatform abstraction. rather, i like to think of it as a scripting orchestration layer for platform views (which you can still write). like in games
