It’s ok to be real and intellectually honest about COP30.
One can be honest without being a cynic. We don’t have to oversell the outcomes just to not lose momentum. So many COP30 summaries I have read sound more like auto-hypnosis than analysis. That can’t be helpful.

With a mixed-results at COP30 - i.e. good intentions but no concrete plans for the “transition away from fossil fuels” - don’t give up.

Let’s remember the progress made since the Paris Agreement and the options ahead of us. That’s the message of the image below

As harrowing as this, it felt like a relief to read it. The commentariat's refusal to grapple with what climate change will do to us, if we don't phase out fossil fuels, has been driving me insane.

This should help break the collective amnesia.

Most balanced take on #COP30 I have seen thus far:
Quick post on how COP30 was a mix of success and failure, but the narrative battle is starting to see it as a failure and that’s really bad news. As ever the onus is now on governments and businesses that want climate action to step up.

The current net zero strategy has its flaws, but all the counter proposals amount to ‘what if nuclear was cheap and quick to build?’ ‘What if everyone agreed a carbon tax? What if climate change just wasn’t so bad? And they call themselves realists.
On politically naive Kathryn Potter is interesting. She bangs on about how nuclear not renewables is THE answer. And says nuclear should be so much cheaper. But then implicitly acknowledges that long term only way of achieving those cheaper prices is political stability. So realistic for the UK!!

At some point, someone, somewhere is going to have to confront the reality that the main promoter of antisemitism worldwide is the world's richest man. He (usually) doesn't directly endorse these theories, but he has given their proponents an enormous, unrestricted platform to advertise and recruit
Cannot overstate how unhinged and insidious what Candace Owens is doing with Charlie Kirk’s assassination. (Short version: a lot of huffing and puffing and “just asking questions” to lead people to believe The Jews Did It)
The final reason is antisemitism. Influencers like Candace Owens are promoting antisemitic conspiracies about Jews and Israel and those ideas are gaining traction with young conservatives.
