Very calm and frightening guy at the office, half the staff is fucking terrified of him bc he's incredibly quiet, intense, and quite stern. Literally feels like the air gets colder when he disapproves of something you've said - normally if jokes are made about ignoring health and safety protocol

The entire point of social media is being able to surround yourself with people who start posts with sentences like "Hi, shipwreck autist here!"
Hi, shipwreck autist here! It was in fact true at the time. The Edmund Fitzgerald also had a sister ship, the Arthur B. Homer, which had the same structural defect the Edmund Fitzgerald did and was quietly retired shortly after Fitz sank. She remains the largest ship ever scrapped on the Great Lakes

The identity of being disabled may cause people to put everyone who faces disability in the box of “victim” (or the opposite! We’re plenty villainized in others’ eyes too), but the truth is that we are all capable of abusive actions no matter who we are and what our experiences may be

Yeah and this means there is a subset of disabled people for whom if we are not liked enough, we don't get that charity. We end up homeless and probably die of exposure or lack of necessities or untreated illness. Disabled people often have to try extra hard to be likeable to others or we die.
Disabled people are often forced to rely on one another and are more beholden to other people's good feeling or "charity" because we are often less able to be independent, and other disabled people can be canny to that and work to weaponise that reliance and undercut us

Today's a great day to support some creators.
Writers and artists and creatives of all sorts: reply with a link to one of your works. And feel free to tell us about it.
Everyone: let's check through the replies and buy some creations and support some human beings.

Always bonkers when people try to imply that disability or neurodivergence somehow absolves one of potentially being cruel or abusive. Apart from the implied dehumanisation there in going "well, disabled people simply lack the complexity to be Bad like Normal People" like

it's so funny being the chronically ill, in pain, exhausted dad, and also, apparently, the fun dad. i was in bed today from like 4am until 5pm. since waking up i have showered, sat very still on the sofa for an hour or so, and since then have mostly sat still at my desk for like three hours

I see the jokes about that last calling a mosque an “Islamic church” but like… old Palestinian churches had prayer niches built into them facing Mecca. You are not prepared for how flimsy the borders around these faiths are in our folk traditions. It used to freak visitors TF out, it’s so funny.

Obviously funny when my partner is in the bathroom and I can hear the cat scratching to get in. Even funnier when he lets one cat in, and the other one runs into the bedroom to whine to ME that she hadn't been let in as well
