i feel like most people's arguments for daylight savings are at root just complaints about the existence of winter in temperate latitudes. no amount of messing with the clock will change the basic reality that it gets dark in the winter.

permanent standard time is the way to go.
Hello from Time-change-with-a-toddler Land!

THE SCIENCE SUGGESTS THAT YEAR ROUND STANDARD TIME IS BEST.

I know it’s the least of our worries right now, but let’s get some data driven policy going and end this hellscape of twice a year time change.

Study suggests most Americans would be healthier without daylight saving time
According to a new analysis by Stanford Medicine scientists, changing clocks twice a year disrupts circadian rhythms, leading to higher rates of stroke and obesity.

While the rest of the world, especially China, continues to invest in the modernization of their electrical grids with clean, renewable energy technologies, our dipshit dumbass and his moronic cult are taking us back a century to near complete dependence on coal and fossil fuels.

DEAN: What's the tariff on bananas?

LUTNICK: Generally 10%

DEAN: Walmart has already increased the cost of bananas by 8%

LUTNICK: If you build in America, there is no tariff

DEAN: We cannot build bananas in America

One of grants frozen at Cornell: $6.7M (4 yrs) to develop heart pumps for babies born w/ heart defects.

It took decades of work to get to point of prepping device for in-human clinical trials. No private company could do this.

The cruelty of the Trump administration is heartbreaking. So to speak.
Research at risk: Life-saving heart pumps for babies | Cornell Chronicle
After receiving a stop-work order from the federal government, the future of a device to help children with heart defects is uncertain.

I can’t exaggerate how badly this will affect our field, also internationally since many missions are jointly funded with eg ESA and JAXA. We are basically pinning our hopes on congressfolk to fight for all the regions that will lose jobs, since the science isn’t winning any arguments. 😢🔭🧪
First the rumour was a 20% budget cut. Then, 50%. Now the president's NASA budget is out and it's a 68% cut to astrophysics ($1.5B to $487M).

Even if this gets reversed in four years, we will *never* recover the missions, partners, people who will be gone.

Massive cuts to NASA science proposed in early White House budget plan
The preliminary version of President Donald Trump’s budget proposal to Congress, known as a “passback,” would cut the agency’s science budget funding nearly in half.

The biggest thing we need to do is let people know that the protests are FUN. Yelling fuck the man is fun. You will meet fun people.

We also need to make them more fun. Bring grills like the French. Bring instruments like it’s Mardi Gras. Give people a reason to spend their weekend in the streets.

everyone should listen to this in its entirety but journalists should listen to it multiple times. this is how you ask questions. you just keep asking simple, easily answerable stuff and the evasiveness becomes that much more glaring
In which the Department of Homeland Security struggles to answer a very simple question: "Is any criticism of the United States government a deportable offense?"

I said why I was fine with Biden’s pardon. Reaction among highly engaged Dems seems overwhelmingly supportive. This tweet, I think, helps explain why. The pardon taps into the almost unfathomably deep ocean of “fuck you” Dems are feeling toward the gatekeepers of political discourse in the country.
