Kneecap to the PSE sector - TOTAL temporary resident target (TFWs plus international students) to be roughly halved, from 670K to 370K.
That's minimum a $2 Billion hit to the sector. Probably more. Will work this out later

Today, I submitted 456,365 Albertans’ signatures to Elections Alberta, petitioning the Premier to do the right thing, avoid a divisive and economically harmful referendum, and allow MLAs to vote and reaffirm that Alberta’s future is in Canada.🇨🇦

Alberta teachers say fight just begun but will follow the law in back-to-work bill
The union for Alberta’s teachers says the province using the Charter’s notwithstanding clause to end their strike is a gross abuse of power -- but says it will follow the law.

Every Albertan should be outraged.
Our govt just rammed thru a full on attack on our constitutional rights.
If they’ll do this to our teachers, nobody’s constitutional rights will be safe.
This cannot be allowed to stand.

But preemptively invoking the notwithstanding clause is to cede the moral high ground right from the start. The government would be admitting that it does not believe it had earnestly bargained in good faith, and failed to reach an agreement despite that.

If the govt can just dictate the terms of a contract—skipping past binding arbitration and legislating away recourse rights—and the public accepts that, well, then what reason would govt have to bargain in good faith with any public sector employees going forward?

What's the hurry?
In just 6 years, the UCP has been responsible for nearly half of all time allocation motions in Alberta history.
They're promising to do it again today, this time ramming through a bill that removes Charter rights in a matter of hours.

Rumour has it they are considering invoking both time allocation and the notwithstanding clause.

An education system that fosters community & solidarity
Or an education system that favours individual freedom/liberty
But you must make this choice assuming the veil of poverty - not wealth
What say you now?
