This lady sucks ass and clearly cannot meet the moment and I hope Broadview residents remember that when she's up for reelection

Casa Yari had to close not too long ago due to some leasing issues, and they're coming back as well, to Division St.

When you have a spot people really love I think it does make it easier since people are keeping an eye on when they can come back to patronize. Best of luck to them

Maybe pundits should spend more time in densely packed, left leaning urban areas where the "real Americans" live

This thread is about Evanston, but this has also been going on without reprieve in Elgin, Aurora, and other Chicago suburbs—a metro area of nearly 10 million people.
Some context to the viral videos:

Around 9am Friday, ICE/CBP *encircled* several square miles of a safe suburb and *stormed* it using multiple units.

They were in cars, on foot in alleys & gangways, and in helicopters. They demanded papers, threatened residents, pointed guns, kidnapped people.

The irony is neither do a lot of ice agents. They have to keep the mask on so their colleagues won't take them
From the New Republic: "ICE agents kidnapped a U.S. citizen in Chicago who had just finished working a double shift because she didn’t “look” American to them." newrepublic.com/post/201745/...
Surely this is illegal and should be stopped.

It's strange that people some people will bad faith argue that a massive group of people getting together to denounce injustice can't be a good organizing tool. Where do you think you meet and recruit people to concrete and local actions? That's your audience for a bigger impact
5 million people showed up for the Chicago Cubs World Series parade, if we’re doing a headcount of meaningless gatherings.

The CRM was disruptive and effective, but your a little Lib parades are nice too
What I said is that No Kings is much larger than the civil rights movement, and by the normal metric for "larger" - the number of participants - that is absolutely, incontestably true. It doesn't matter if that hurts your feelings or doesn't fit into your perception of US history. It's simply true.

Trump’s immigration operation, coupled with the presence of federal agents in Chicago, is reopening wounds many Black people felt after migrants were bussed to the city in droves.

My mom likes to cook but hates figuring out what to make. Unfortunately, I don't think I was very helpful when she asked what I was making for dinner and I said "a salad".

I don't think this is sanctioned by the city. White people in this neighborhood just do whatever they want. Blocked off a couple streets to have a block party and they did the same thing on Halloween lmao

I spent over an hour finding the right pen at the stationary store's sidewalk sale. It was fucking glorious. If anything I felt rushed and ran out of time

I will say this about urbanist Twitter, it really did convince me that I should drive less and rely on other forms of transit. Not quite ready to be a serious cyclist yet, but that "you're not *in* traffic, you *are* traffic" line made a lot of sense

I hate how much I love stationary stores because they're so fucking expensive

A lot of cope from people who can't back into a space
if you cannot safely see to drive your car the answer is not to rely on back up cameras. You should only drive a car you can handle. Your stupid truck is too big.
what's with people backing into parking spaces? just like to spend a little bit of your day inconveniencing everyone around you for a little bit each day?

I had a professor who said the point of going to college was to go to class and do the reading. He was really upset by the thought of students just bullshitting their essays and not actually reading because what was the point of that? What was that supposed to teach us?
i just find this so bizarre. searching through texts and doing the reading for myself is how i actually think through ideas! trying to put together a sentence is how i figure out what i actually want to say!
