Parable of the Sower really messed with me, but one of the ways it MOST messed with me (in a good way) was its insistence on the inevitability and persistence of change.

We're never going back, but also we never WERE going back.

This rollercoaster never had a reverse button. Time never does
One of the hardest things I’ve grappled with over the past nine months or so is the death of “normal”. There’s no normal to go back to. There’s just *this* and whatever we make of what comes next

So many elements of this story it’s hard to keep up. But this particular paragraph is infuriating beyond reality.

Constantly reminded of how poor people's communication skills really are. I am not exempt from this, even tho it's something I work on a lot. We are so alienated from each other. We are so bad at having serious conversations about serious matters.

one of the reasons why emergency alert systems aren't better is because we collectively stop talking about the problem within 2 weeks of a disaster and nobody wants to hear about it anymore

His victims got on the stand and shared some of the most horrific stories and he was acquitted anyway.

This is why I get so angry when people blame victims for not speaking up or walking away. Why? Who will protect them, believe them, and guarantee proper justice?

Is Cory Booker going to save the nation today? No. He needs America to wake up and help him. Is he going to set a new standard for leadership in the Democratic Party? Yes. Booker’s Fascibuster is a perfect example of the fight we need to see from our elected representatives.

once you actually internalize that society is fake and we just made everything up and none of this is real other than the "realness" people have placed upon it, it's insane that anyone thought any of this would work in the first place

I think the role of police will becoming even clearer in the coming years. Not only will they hurt and kill people, but the degree to which they're far-right forces will come into focus. Cops will double down on supporting fascists and attacking those who resist or try to build working class power.
