This is such a good point – I'd never considered it from that angle before, but you're right!
Recalls Linda Hutcheon theorising adaptations and her critique of "faithfulness": it's always a conservative value! Literally predicated on sexual purity, monogamy, subservience and service.
I've spent my whole adult life studying and working in the field of translation. It's almost a red flag to me at this point if anyone uses the word "faithful" to refer to translation – it shows they don't know what #translation really is. This review beautifully explains why.

Empfehlung von einem Freund – ich freu mich drauf. Es gibt viel zu wenige Dokus, die das Anderssein einfach als solches darstellen, nicht nur als etwas "grundsätzlich Unerwünschtes".
Es gibt wenige "gute" Dokus über Neurodiversität. Letztens gabs eine auf ARTE, die fand ich nur so halb gut, weil sie stellenweise die Anpassung an die Normgesellschaft als "Erfolg" zeigte. Drum hab ich sie nicht geteilt.
