Trying to see if 3 dances classes, 2 art classes, 3 online classes, and 23 work hours are manageable. Maybe not.

I don't see why the media is emphasizing the "speed" of the orders. It doesn't take much time to sign a piece of paper.

What matters is the *thought* and *planning* that went into those pieces of paper *before* they were signed.

And I really, really doubt they thought it through.

ICE is trying to deport Native American people to Mexico. This one from the Mescalero Apache Tribe.

That's right. People indigenous to the United States, tribal members. ICE is trying to remove them from the US.

This is the second verified incident I've heard about.

We were here 1st.

Personally I’d like to stop seeing pictures of the richest man in the world doing a sieg heil at the U.S. presidential inauguration.

Thank you for the sane recommendations. May I add: look for nonprofit investigative news outlets. Some local newspapers are running on empty. Find the real journalists who report on your local government.

24/ We work together to build a democracy so that we have a safe space to work through those issues *without violence.* That's the goal, and tolerance means, well, tolerating people you don't normally like to achieve a greater goal.

23/ Finally, remember that pro-democracy coalitions are *really big*. There will be people in the coalition who you wouldn't normally vote with. Who might even have political ideas you find objectionable.

4) Any efforts to legally deny people or parties the ability to run in elections. I know it seems far-fetched, but Trump could outlaw the DNC or ban candidates from running on trumped-up (haha) charges.

3) Any attempt to use the military or the national guard to suppress peaceful protests. That occurred late in his first term... if it happens again, the democratic opposition has to take to the streets.

17/ Fifth, remember Sun Tzu's art of war: always pick your battles. Trump & co. are happy to use distracting issues like purchasing Greenland (??) to draw attention away from more controversial topics. To defend democracy, we don't need to fight every issue.

11/ First, be sure to get good information about how democracy is doing. One of the best is the Bright Line Watch survey, which asks a large group of political scientists about the state of democracy in the US (link: brightlinewatch.org). Sign up to get their emails!

10/ Is there reason to panic? NO. Democracies collapse but the fight for just government continues. We should be prepared for all outcomes, and we should *fight smart.* Let's talk first about resources to *stay informed*:

8/ One consequence of a loss of govt. responsiveness-even without a full collapse of democracy--is a rise in political violence. Political violence, whether from govt. thugs beating up protesters or targeted assassinations, is pretty common in much of the world.

3/ But even if democracy survives, we can see real scars. If Trump & his cronies pull off half of their ideas, we will see a decline in *representativeness*: how much our government reflects what people want.
