Tag yourself, but vitally, tag your parents when you were 14.

Also wtf every roofer I have ever met has been rough as guts. Where are the classy roofers?

Recently I found myself on Antipope Instagram, where there are endless reels of the current Antipope of the Palmarian Catholic Church.

This is, of course, extremely my jam, and I started reading up on them hoping to find some wild theology, but instead I found something WAY better...

I had someone ask me my opinion (as a forensic investigator) on deep fake scams and basically had to go "look, they're really good, but the main thing is to build your processes in a way that someone can't just override them if they get a video call from the CFO in the first place."

It may just be because I was reading/listening to a bunch of military revolution stuff this month, but this is both true and funny. Off to pitch my “how to build a competitive trace italienne” piece to Bloomberg
the funny thing about the "moat" metaphor is that as I understand it moats were only sort of meh as a defense mechanism, as in an extended siege you could just fill them in or dig under them or whatever, and mostly existed because they were (like an earthen berm) cheap to make
i think DeepSeek is straight-up lying about how they trained their models, although the performance is _very_ good. the thing is that there's just no moat and people have been saying this from the beginning. maybe people are becoming aware of this.

Great, that’s the rest of my day devoted to laying all my books on their sides and seeing which are wavy (report 1: 4x recent Booker nominees yes, new Richard Osman no)
Just pause and contemplate the loss of real, meaningful knowledge involved in thinking that paper is a mere uniform planar surface, and not a crafted object in itself, with specific forms and structures that must be respected.
Excellent letter in the latest London Review of Books from Robin Kinross about the woeful state of book production in the UK. The first principle of the grain direction of paper has seemingly been lost, and bookshop tables of trade hardbacks a depressing experience.

Hey, science fiction writers. A request to make.

Normally it's unethical to discuss a story we didn't buy. But years later, there's a "one that got away" I still think about, and I REALLY want to know who wrote it.

Did YOU write about space snails taking over the anglican church?
