Right - no Allingham autograph?

Nolan Bond is, I think, the logical end point of the last 20 years.

I was literally midway through typing “fucks sake, am I seriously paying for fake phishing this half-assed and obvious?” the other week when I heard 3 senior managers all start swearing at once

I know nothing useful but sympathies, that’s an horrendous situation and the uncertainty makes it worse

That's not hindsight, either - "Pixies would have broken like Nirvana if Black Francis looked like Kurt" was an article of faith among ghastly MRR rock snobs in 1991-2

Sonic Youth were already royalty when Surfer Rosa came out & Nirvana had a once-in-a-generation front man (and, lets be honest, never had the chance to rust, just like Hendrix never got to record his embarrassing COVID single with Van Morrison)

Careful - my 18 year old is still claiming trauma from the time, 12 years ago, when she stuck her head into our attic and I asked if she wanted to meet her other brother.

It's the fact that someone still held a grudge about The Good Life in 1990, I think

not perfect, but it has their 3 best songs (Ivy, You’re Just Dead Skin & I’m Losing More…)

Brilliant book, that. It’s what all the mud-level fantasy soldier books remind me of, too

Possibly the bleakest one-liner I ever read was (I think) Bruce Sterling pointing out that the 20th century leader best suited to handling the expected climate crisis was Stalin

There's a lot to like about both, but we can't let rhyming "protest" with "injustice" go unpunished, so Julee it is

My favourite is "it's like having a research assistant...OK, a research assistant who confidently invents 15-25% of their facts" as if you wouldn't fire that assistant in hour 2

also the first question is almost dementedly unclear (BY WHAT METRIC? - if it’s “esch woman wants to date men she finds attractive“ then…what else does the word mean?)

That’s really great. I remember some website’s claim the book was a lens whose focal point was outside the book (paraphrasing 20 year old memories here) but that’s much, much better.
