I’ve been hate reading rightwing comment sections for decades, and for all their bigotry the group they were angriest at was the Republican Party

Didn’t make sense to me at the time but sure does now
There's one example of a successful hostile takeover of a major party - Donald Trump - and it didn't happen by playing nice with the party bigwigs. Trump went to war with them, humiliated them. And now "Little Marco" works for him.

The benefits from hormone replacement have been under appreciated
One on side, the Trump administration is arguing that hormones are "mutilating" when used by trans people. When used by cis people, they are removing all the warning labels and increasing access.

Funny how that works.

Just like with trans coverage.

[reporting subject]: “please do not print that obvious lie, it will severely harm me and my family and benefit no-one”

[nyt]: “thanks, we’ll add that quote to the story! Might remove your name and write “activists say” instead, though”

Omg I just figured it out

You *did* have to show ID at grocery stores when paying with *physical paper cheque*
Trump: "It's time for Republicans to do what they have to do and that's terminate the filibuster ... we should start tonight with 'the country's open, congratulations,' then we should pass voted ID, we should pass no mail in voting ... you go to a grocery store, you have to give ID."

Oh no
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

“a male correspondent was initially included on the layoff list but was removed after he appealed directly to the new editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss, leading to another female correspondent being added to the list at the last minute.”

EXCLUSIVE: Multiple sources told The Independent that senior foreign correspondent Debora Patta was added to the layoff list following a last-minute change by editor-in-chief Bari Weiss.

Literally fcking tilting at fcking windmills
this is actually one of the least surprising insane things he's done

Trump basically turned into Don Quixote because they built a wind farm offshore of his Scottish golf resort, this is one of maybe three things he truly cares about (windmills, tariffs, revenge)

of course he told RFK to do this

I was recently laid off by ARTnews, a few days before the theft at the Louvre. The terms of my TN work visa means I can't freelance unless I donate the funds to charity. I'm open to new FT roles in business reporting and communications, and am willing to relocate to other cities, including Toronto.

43 years ago today, readers the world over opened their newspapers and gazed upon cow tools for the first time. happy birthday cow tools. you look great.

Oh was the lead writer on this Simon Bazelon? The son of Emily Bazelon, whose NYT article about trans kids was so heinous that it sparked 200 NYT contributors to sign an open letter protesting it?

The phrase “Decide to win” reminds me of “Effective Altruism,” another term that’s only compelling to people who believe that no-one else has tried thinking before
October 27, 2025 at 8:07 PM
Like, LBJ said “We’ve lost the south for a generation” but he still signed the bill
this feels completely banal? yes, a big tent political party is going to include voters who have bigoted views. i don’t think anyone has argued otherwise? the actual question at hand is “to what extent should a political party ostensibly committed to equality appeal to popular prejudices?”
Bigots in the tent
What did you think winning meant? vibes? papers? essays? losers.

It’s standard TERF logic for denying any scientific or medical result showing that T helps trans guys. “Oh, well, that’s just because T makes everyone euphoric!”

It‘s a galling lie to tell people like me, a person who T very much did not make euphoric
People are missing the strong undercurrent of anti-transmasc moral panic from this weird cautionary story that continually suggests testosterone causes a "high" without any sort of scientific justification for using that word.
