I am sad to let you all know that one of our faculty here at BCAS and UNC, Dr. Charlotte Boettiger, has passed away. She was a wonderful scientist and a great person. She will be missed.

With the huge challenges facing scientists, I call on peer reviewers to reflect on their role as gatekeepers to trainee career development and scientific progress. You can maintain high standards for rigor while being kind and not demanding an extra year of studies for every paper revision.

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%.

I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters.

Slightly annoying how many of the comments are like, "This is written so broadly it's going to even affect ME over here in chemistry" or whatever. We need to (always) stand together as scientists whether you're the target or the collateral damage.

GLP-1 analogs have become a first-line treatment for type II diabetes and weight management. Appetite reduction is mediated through activation of brain GLP-1Rs. In this review, we discuss the role of the Central Amygdala in integrating the actions of GLP-1R agonists.

It would be nice if people could stop acting like DEI is an only a moral good.

DEI strengthens organizations. People from diverse backgrounds bring new ways of solving problems and serving people.

DEI isn’t a gift to diverse people. It’s a gift to the orgs that hire us.
