Actual psychologist here, and there are 2 things I would like to point out:
1. This sort of "we tried our best / we weren't so bad" is very much a classic move of the awful authoritarian and/or narcissistic parent, they've always done this and social media has allowed them more reach 🧵

Ooh, just remembered today is the 6th anniversary of when I came out as trans!! The couple of weeks before blur together as a slow realisation so I mark the day I first told my Mum I'm doing it. I'm gonna be a woman (it went well!)

When the Patriot Act was passed, libraries got requests for patrons’ borrowing history. We were prohibited from disclosing those requests.
We deleted and shredded those records and stopped tracking reading history for that reason.

to begin with, let's look at why one might think it is. yes, a lot of bi trans women didn't date men until transitioning because transition let them become more comfortable in their own selves & sexuality. this happened to me, for one.

What people're missing here is the 'that doesn't interest you' part. Reading classics you love will inspire, but the point of these posts was always to reject the idea you had to slog through classics other people determine in order to feel like a 'real' 'qualified' author. I promise you you don't

I have now deleted almost everything social off my phone, it's just Bluesky and WhatsApp. Urgh, the Internet was a lifesaver when I first came out just 5.5 years ago, it feels so small and isolating now 😔

Let me tell you a little bit about the current state of publishing. Every author, trad or indie published, is expected to do hours of self promo. Not too much, or people get salty, but too little and no one knows your books exist.
You have to have a following. People judge you based on that.
