I painted this a few years ago for fun. I love Maggie Smith as Violet, the Dowager Countess of Grantham in Downton Abbey. I love her face and the expressiveness of her eyes. I'm sorry she is gone now. She was brilliant.

I'm really struggling today. One of my adult children is desperate financially. Has been all year. Her partner has cancer and can't work. Her self-employed income is suffering due to the economy. We've helped where we can, but have limited resources. We really need a miracle.

Just as literature has its famous quotations, art has its famous paintings; Van Gogh's work is on lunchboxes to umbrellas. This work won't be among them. It was made in 1881 while studying under his cousin Anton Mauve, Van Gogh thought it one of his best watercolours.
