I am very very convinced that the phrase “creative person” is completely tautologous. My evidence is only that I have met quite a lot of people.
I’m sparing the Leader of the Opposition the embarrassment of me having heard another of her GCSE performances. I‘m sure she’ll thank me one day

Why didn’t they call the knitting programme The Great British Cast Off?
(I’m not watching it I don’t think time peril is a good addition to working with your hands)

Are all current TV thrillers about evil cuckoos from the servant class? Do we maybe want to have a look at that?

The great actor, director & playwright Jack Shepherd has died. An important figure at the Court in the 60s, later with Bill Bryden's company @ the National - an actor of startling quicksilver intelligence, physical force & grace. His play IN LAMBETH - about Blake meeting Thomas Paine -

We hope the learnings from this report will go some way in ensuring health conditions such as epilepsy are better understood and cared for in custody, and that further future deaths are prevented.

So a while back I was commissioned to do short bios of various rock stars, and they were just about universally total psychopaths, with the huge exception of Freddie Mercury. A lovely man who did good by his wife, his lovers, and his cats.
Today (24 November) marks the passing of Freddie Mercury, lead vocalist and pianist of the rock band Queen. He remains regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music.

I am angry about this because I feel so powerless about it. As a patient NHS institutions put me and staff in so many unsafe situations for no good reason at all and gaslit us about it, trying to make us complicit and often succeeding
The worst thing? We as a society have not learned anything. As institutions we would not be any better prepared this time round. We still don’t talk about how to prevent airborne infections, we still talk things down rather than being open. all this loss and trauma has not made us learn a thing

"We grant people different rights based on their genetic heritage and on which scrap of land they happened to be born on. That’s mad, isn’t it?"

I just think, when debating immigration and so on, that we should try not to lose sight of the fact that "nationality" is a made up thing.
Why does nationality matter, anyway?
Deciding someone's legal rights based on a nebulous combination of birthplace and parentage is a bit weird

Powerful piece by @drrachelclarke.com on the COVID inquiry. Those who say it’s easy to be wise in hindsight are being utterly disingenuous. Many of us spoke out at the time, and it’s in the public record.

There’s a word we used to say. They don’t let you say it anymore, but I think it’s a beautiful word. We call it: dialectic. You have the thesis, and then the antithesis, and if you put them together it’s a synthesis. Very powerful. We’ll be looking into that. Very materialist, the theory of history
TRUMP [after spending 5 minutes with Zohran]: surplus value, it’s a very wonderful thing, very wonderful, and they’re stealing it. Can you believe that?

We’re going to be looking very strongly at the bourgeoisie, what they’re up to

Insomniacs! I learned a sleep method this week that actually *works*. And it has bona fides: a friend’s cognitive sci mate at Imperial has researched it.

1) Pick a letter of the alphabet (I rolled my eyes here. I knew this trick, I said. It doesn’t work for me. But this one’s different)

At a BMA conference 15+ years ago a junior doctor stood at the podium, looked straight at a bunch of journalists in their 20s and asked how we'd feel if we were "only" paid a wage more than any of us were on by quite a distance. They deserved good money! But that... didn't help.

I mean, yeah, maybe it is a bit rude to disrupt people's lives, but that's not something you want to make ARRESTABLE, now is it?

You know what causes a lot more disruption? Climate crisis. I mean, wow. Slow walking, sure, pain in the rear, but flooding and high winds? Drought? Little bit worse.
