I just watched my son hit "submit" on his first (and hopefully only) college application, to our local state university which happens to have a great compSci program. This "high school senior" thing feels really real now!

Some of the more affluent kids from my kids’ school have started doing “popup shops” in their garage… my 9th grade daughter got an “exclusive” invite and is loading up on the cool rich 11th grader’s hand-me-down brand name clothes.
I can’t tell if this feels gross or encouraging or somehow both?

This hurts my brain.
I suppose when people say that they mean "this made me think too hard", but no, this hurts my brain in the same way that reading about a tragedy in the news might "hurt my heart".

I got into an interesting "eat the rich" conversation today, and it reminded me to check in with something like www.givingwhatwecan.org/how-rich-am-i again... it's good to periodically remind myself how privileged I am and make sure I'm contributing back to the world accordingly.
How Rich Am I?
Calculate how rich you are compared to the rest of the world. Are you in the top global income percentile? Does your household income make you wealthy?

My kids just got home from their last day of school and I officially have two High Schoolers in my house- my daughter is now a freshman, and my son is now a senior.
Somehow, this pic feels like just yesterday...

I don’t know if the petition/bond will make a difference in the final outcome but please support Ximena, who is by all accounts an asset to her community and does not deserve to be sitting in detention (much less deported).

What if instead of "I'm afraid you have ADHD. We'll help you minimize it so it doesn't affect your life too badly."
I'd been told: "Wow, you have ADHD! I bet someday your unique brain will do some uniquely cool things. Meanwhile, let show you a way to remove tags that won't leave holes in clothes."

Sigh. Apparently ambulances are, more often than not, considered "out of network". There goes $4000...
I cannot believe this is the system we live in.

I’m utterly, frustratingly stumped!
A colleague printed up a corporate logo bingo card for something they’re doing, but it didn’t come w a key, and no one can figure out the bottom middle one. Anyone know??

Reverse image search only returns Midstate Technical College, which … don’t think so.

Thanks!

A defining trait of so many centrist pundits, esp those who see themselves as “data driven,” to treat public opinion as some sort of immutable view that can only be RESPONDED TO, but not changed.

Which is … really wrong. How do political pundits not understand … politics?
It’s incredible to me how wrong some otherwise smart people have been about this…

So take this as a reason to subscribe to my Substack, where we go deeper into the numbers than other people, and actually read the political science about why and how opinions change: www.gelliottmorris.com

My 75-year old mother’s retirement home has a “bucket list club” where each month they tackle an item from someone’s bucket list.
They went paragliding off Lookout Mountain today. 5 people, averaging probably 80 years old, ran and jumped and glided.

That’s all. I just felt you should know.

This Friday, where will you be?

I successfully downloaded my ~250 kindle books a whopping two days before the deadline that would have vendor-locked me into Kindle for forever!
Yay for the folks that made it so easy to do! next.content.town/p/kindle-drm...
The Kindle DRM Deadline is Approaching!
On the 26th, Amazon is disabling a feature that makes backing up your Kindle eBooks easy. You have a couple of days to download them before it’s too late
