It's profoundly different to cover a U.S. president than state or local officials, and too, much harder to vent publicly if you're female. But if in my reporting days, if anyone from a police sergeant to the mayor of Baltimore told me, "Quiet, piggy," I'd immediately insist he go fuck himself.

ah, perhaps instead of pumping millions into endless factional infighting Dem donors could invest in making local Dem organizations genuine civic spaces that can reach people during and between elections

it's time for journos to start asking Johnson meta questions

"Speaker, on 5 occasions last week you said 'I haven't seen it' when asked about news events w/big implications for public policy. Do you ever read the news, and do you agree it's problematic for the Speaker to be so woefully uninformed?"

But affirmative action is the true enemy of meritocracy at elite schools…
At Harvard, many students skip class and fail to do the reading, according to a report, but rampant grade inflation allows them to coast through anyway. Now, professors are trying to change a campus culture they say hurts achievement and stifles speech.

Or Trump is a lifelong liar and propagandist who doesn't care if he's caught because he knows he won't be punished.

Trump is not the admin's main ideologue, but the idea that he's brainwashed instead of flagrantly lying is bizarrely generous. Flagrant lying showcases power. He's always done it.
It's increasingly clear that the president lives in a constructed bubble of unreality designed by aides who are manipulating him in order to take control of US policy. Seems like an important story - wish media would cover it.

We've had fuckups in the White House before, but never a president who seemed so deliberately intent on being a fuckup.

It's been said before, but if these people were actual agents of an enemy power seeking to divide, dismantle and destroy the USA they wouldn't be doing anything different.

He knows it. They know it. They've always known it. Amongst themselves, they joke about it. They tell stories about it. They swap advice on how to deal with it.

But most importantly, to everyone else, they lie about it.
MADELEINE DEAN: The president is unhinged. He's unwell

JOHNSON: A lot of folks on your side are too

D: Oh my god, please. That performance in front of the generals?

J: I didn't see it

D: It's so dangerous! Our allies are looking elsewhere. Our enemies are laughing. You have a POTUS who's unwell.

It’s so embarrassing. Trump has made everything UFC with the worst WWE storylines. Thankfully the World Cup & Olympics are “woke” sports so it shouldn’t bleed too much into those—IF we still can host…

It’s really all we should be talking about today.
There is no world in which it is normal for the president to publicly call upon his attorney general to hurry up and prosecute his political foes. It’s like the Watergate tapes but posted on social media. Let’s get a grip on what’s happening here.

Many media outlets hid the full truth of Trump -- his background in organized crime, his Epstein ties -- out of fear, only to be obliterated by him in the end. Had they not self-censored then, they might not be state-censored now. When you hide the truth, you face the consequences.

The Senate passed the OBBB so the House could fix it. The House passed the OBBB so Trump could fix it with executive orders. Trump doesn’t know what's in the bill, and possibly doesn't know what day it is.

How is a country supposed to function like this?
CNBC: It sounds to me like the president persuaded you by saying he's gonna override some of the provisions in the bill. Is that right?

RALPH NORMAN: He's going to on the permitting drive a hard bargain. He's gonna have accountability. You'll see some executive orders.
