An really important thing a lot of people don't realize about Trump is that he doesn't bully people he doesn't think he can bully.
Let’s be clear.

@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social got Trump so charmed that Trump posted two photos of the two of them with Franklin Roosevelt’s portrait behind them AND one of just Mamdani and FDR’s portrait.

Heartbreaking stuff. And more good journalism from @charlotteobserver.com which has been a part of an incredible effort from local media to cover this past week’s attack on our city.

He's not scared, he's smitten. Mamdani probably talked about CATS and Phantom with him.

Just Two Sectors Account for 100% of US Job Growth in 2025
If you’re looking for a job in health care or hospitality, the good news is US companies are hiring. But employers across the rest of the economy are scaling back.

The Covid inquiry’s findings are shocking but unsurprising now, so the main thing it left me thinking is that without a vaccine we wd’ve been utterly screwed. & if you worked round the clock to make a thing that saved millions of lives globally, to see that legacy trashed by anti-vaxxers…

Extremely good long read on how prisons shape local economies and politics. So many moments of clarity where the absurdity of the prison-as-industry proposition just slaps you in the face
The construction of prisons in rural areas can create relationships in which residents ultimately become engulfed by incarceration. “The prison almost begins to imprison the community in a way,” says a prison researcher.
The Prison Next Door
How Arkansas’ secretive plan for a new state lockup angered people in a deep red corner of rural America—and changed how some see incarceration.

Putative leftists encouraging people not to vote D no longer upsets me. I assume they're working for troll farm, foreign or domestic, and that after everything that's happened, they couldn't possibly be that stupid.

If I'm wrong about the latter, there's nothing lost.

What the hell: The US accidentally invaded Mexico on Monday, storming a beach and planting DoD “restricted area” signs claiming the land for “the commander,” and triggered a standoff with armed Mexican security forces, all because Trump’s government can’t even identify a border on a map. 🧵 1/

Get your flu shots people. Last year was the worst flu season in 10 years and don't love even a small regional slice like this looking much worse already.
For reference national data for last season: bsky.app/profile/pear...
In Texas' public health region 6/5S, which includes Houston, the number of emergency department visits for influenza is already almost on par with the *peak* of last year.

Earlier this morning, President Trump threatened me and a group of service and veteran Members of Congress with arrest, trial, and death by hanging.

Here’s my response:

This has to be done. We have to have a reckoning with unaccountable police violence
theres no coming back from this without prosecuting everyone up and down the chain of command
They lied about it. All of it. A thug cop shot an unarmed woman five times without justification, boasted about it to his colleagues, and then this administration tried cover it all up by arresting her and charging her with felonies.

When the market goes down hard, it’s never because investors got too bullish, too levered, and too far out over their skis.

It is always because the Fed did it to them.

Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.
