Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism.

We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive

So weird we’ve never had a woman president
An 81-year-old Georgia woman voted for the first time in her life yesterday.

She said she had never voted before because her husband did not think she should. He died last year

A lot of new followers and traffic here on Bluesky today (go figure!), so I thought I'd re-up this as an example of the kind of thing I look forward to sharing more of.
In 1938, an NYU grad student wrote W. E. B. Du Bois about reading Black Reconstruction in America in a course with Henry Commager.

"It called forth quite an argument in class, especially the last chapter," wrote Susie L. Owens. Commager "highly praised your book and you." 🗃️

The platform failed spectacularly, with misinformation proliferating as paid verified accounts spread misleading videos, a doctored photo, and other misinformation. Accounts impersonated a news outlet and another official entity, and Musk himself endorsed accounts that spread misinformation.
Musk’s X allows misinformation about Hamas’ war on Israel to proliferate

Elon’s blocking move is probably going to really drive a stake through the site’s heart - but disaster Twitter is already dead.
Checked Twitter for more Hawaii fire updates this morning: the top results are still largely conspiracy and QAnon swill.

Twitter is now an exponentially less useful tool for disaster updates than it was just a few months ago.
