Our politics seems to be entering a phase of "right supremacy" where only the lives of right-wingers have value. Assassinating the leader of a state legislative body in her own damn home was business as usual, but all of America has to have a reckoning if it's a far-right online influencer.

My cynical take is that nobody listened because it was Toronto and people enjoy Toronto getting hit with crap. But all of Ontario is paying billions, and it's their Ontario Place too (and their Science Centre, and their Greenbelt and...).

Useless Canadian internecine bullshit strikes again.
I was talking about local journalism and forgot to mention the invaluable work of @spacing.bsky.social and @johnlorinc.bsky.social, who did the legwork to investigate Therme. But no one listened.
Want more? At @spacingstore.bsky.social , @johnlorinc.bsky.social has been investigating Therme for years (harassed by their hench-comms). Go back thru his archive. Maybe the NYT will wake more up in Ontario who shrug at Cdn reporting.

A Times investigation shows Therme, a European firm, exaggerated its track record in securing a deal with Ontario, and government auditors found that the process had been unfair and opaque.

Action items with measles cases growing:

If you’re unvaccinated, get vaccinated. It won’t provide instant protection.

• takes about 2 weeks to develop memory immunity after vaccination.
• measles virus has a long incubation period.

measles cases today were infected several weeks ago.

Ontario voted for continued decline in health care, education, smart infrastructure, and competence, but an increase in places to buy booze. And the Ontario Liberals choosing Bonnie Crombie was an absolute self-immolation.

“Without the U.S, Canada doesn’t really have a country.” — Trump today, while once again threatening tariffs and again saying we should become a state.

Think about that statement.

Can ANY American possibly not understand how OUTRAGEOUSLY INSULTING that is to your closest friend & ally?

Seriously?

Dear Ontario opposition leaders: There’s so much to hammer Ford on, yet you are all not doing it very well. It’s not that hard. There are so many bad things Ford has done, just pick a couple and run with it. If you need help, there’s plenty of us on Bluesky that can point you in the right direction.
If you don’t see Doug Ford's love affair with Trump and Musk as a huge red flag, it might be time to talk to your doctor about getting your eyesight checked.

Unless you’re one of the 2.5M people in Doug Ford’s Ontario without a family doctor, I guess.

For @nationalobserver.com, I write that Doug Ford's long love of Donald Trump and support of Elon Musk tells us everything we need to know about his terrible, no-good, lousy judgment.

Pierre Poilievre on CPAC right now making it clear that he's on Trump's side, making up a scatter-shot cacophony of lies on the spot to justify Trump's tariffs on Canada and somehow blame Trudeau.

Well worth watching @MarkJCarney explain to a US audience his view of the clear differences between Canada & US - and his critical point that if the US has changed its priorities with respect to Canada, Canadians are resolved to going forward on our own.

A clip from CBC News of Doug Ford caught on a hot mic saying he was 100% happy Trump won the election in November. Ontario deserves a premier that roots for Team Canada instead. #onpoli

The op-ed below, by Ezra Klein, argues a *critical* truth we can’t forget:

“Trump is acting like a king because he is too weak to govern like a president. He is trying to substitute perception for reality. He is hoping that perception then becomes reality. That can only happen if we believe him.”👇
This is an important piece about resisting Trump’s attempt to “flood the zone.”

“He has always wanted to be king. His plan this time is to first play king on TV. If we believe he is already king, we will be likelier to let him govern as a king. Don’t believe him.”

I’m going to put my rich guy hat on and say I hope that Mexico and Canada issue equal, retaliatory tariffs and stick to them for an extended period.

I apologize to all the people it will cost money and the businesses it will hurt.

But it’s the only way for tariffs to be seen for what they are
