(government minister reading a report on the thousandth clinical drug trial of a pill that eliminates poverty, with a 100% success rate, that generates 10 times the value it costs to produce & makes government ministers public heroes) I don't understand, so the poor are made to suffer how, exactly?
There has literally never been a universal basic income trial program that didn't deliver real and measurable results above and beyond any other form of social welfare, and every time another concludes with the same findings the powers that be go "interesting! Anyway," and pretend it wouldn't work.

Stupidest relationship red flags that should have alerted you to a wrong ‘un - go!

I once had a boyfriend who would eat a chocolate from a shared box and then PUT THE EMPTY WRAPPER BACK IN THE BOX, so the next person reaching for a Snickers or whatever would just get disappointment.

These things would be equivalent if Old Jezza had made the acceptability of big nose caricatures the core of his appeal to the electorate. They are not even slightly comparable if he didn’t do that, and it is IMO impossible to miss this unless you are determined to miss it.

I again point out: the big sales pitch to National Front voters is one of the central planks of the government’s policy platform, and e.g. the mural stuff was a Facebook comment that had to be hacked out of the arse end of digital history by dedicated wingnut cranks, and this distinction matters.

The shift from “migrants are the cause of racism” to “migrants are the cause of fascist rioting” is a big one in political terms but not, I think, in the minds of people who have for decades been saying that it’s not racism at all and even if it is, it’s not bad or shameful.

As “the arts” become more risk averse, it’s amazing how good artists get at coping with risk. It’s been passed to us, wholesale.

“No thanks. Carry on creating, with no visible means of support.”

No wonder we have trouble making ourselves understood. We are from different worlds now.

There are plenty of links between the anti-trans “women’s rights” movement & anti-feminist conservatism. And opposing abortion is a logical conclusion for a movement that says no, you should not have agency over your own body; no, you do not know best about yourself; no, you have no choice.
No way I’m sharing Stock’s UnHerd article. But I am going to point to this bit which amply demonstrates the anti-trans=>anti-women’s rights pipeline. “Abortions should only be done for a highly restricted set of reasons. They should not be just nodded through for any reason a pregnant woman likes.”

Just to echo Rodent, UK politics makes much more sense if you understand it as Thatcherism collapsing in 2008 but persisting as gospel among the elites, who then spent the next two decades setting up various scapegoats to slaughter and then go, "Whoops. Turns out the blood is in another neck!"
I am not going to tell you my ideas are for def 100% the solution but I am going to say that it was crystal clear ten years ago that migrant-squealing Thatcherite centrism was a democratic disaster, and the lads spent that entire time screeching and gargling to protect it.

If racism isn’t the issue at all, and the actual demand is “far right unity on destroying heavily populated urban areas on top of millions of unarmed civilians, without being criticised”, then it would look exactly like this.
