"Whitlam wasn’t perfect. But he was big. He was brave. But mostly, he was rational. He bulldozed his way through the incrementalist policy that kept Australians small, and scared and ill-educated and insular because he knew the evidence was on his side." - @amyremeikis.bsky.social for The Point
Whitlam’s legacy is one of possibility and hope. He showed us what a brave, grown up Australia could look like.
Whitlam showed us what a brave, grown up Australia could look like.  And 50 years later, you have to wonder – is it even possible to make Australia brave again?

This is deplorable.

Koalas suffer and ecosystems are trashed, because the Victorian government won't take sufficient proactive measures to prevent koala starvation.

The issue has been known for months, and such crises are predictable and preventable.

Here's an idea, Minister Watt, activate your heart and spine, respect the advice of environment, climate and conservation experts, and work with the Greens to get the EPBC Act reform package passed. Your job is to be Minister 'for' the environment, remember?

When will you instruct the DPP to initiate criminal prosecutions against the Ministers involved?

OpenAI cried that if everyone eligible author files, the company will go bankrupt, so I'm alerting every author I have ever spoken to.

Worth remembering that Terence Stamp was the son of a ship's stoker.

Stamp desperately wanted to act, after falling in love with movies as a kid, and it was a scholarship to Drama School that allowed him to walk that path.

Every time arts cuts are made, they rob us of more Terence Stamps.

This is the stupidest policy ever. Aside from the grotesque inequity of it, it'd just encourage every taxpayer to send their kids private to minimise or eliminate their taxes. Imagine being able to send your kids to a $20- $50,000 school and having the fees deducted from your tax bill. Insane.
Private school fees are currently GST free, and now the Libs want to make them tax-deductible??
