Clerics were "reluctant" to elect a pope from the U.S., one cardinal told POLITICO. But in the end, they settled on not just an American but one who could, plausibly, act as a counterweight against the impulsive President Trump.
Will the first American pope stand up to Trump?
Support in this week’s papal conclave coalesced around a leader who may challenge the U.S. president’s agenda, particularly around migration.

Massachusetts neighbors tried to stop ICE from ripping away a mother who was with two children, including a newborn baby.

The agents had no warrant.

Those who want “illegals” to uphold the law should start by upholding it themselves.

This is vile, cruel, and unforgivable. Period.

Was playing with kids at a cookout. Wrote “power to the people” in sidewalk chalk.

Tow headed white boy walks over, reads it silently, nods slowly.

“If anybody erases this? I will write it back.”

Okay little John Brown, I see you.

“Abolish ICE” is the moderate position. Radical is “prosecute every ICE employee under RICO.”

Ask yourself what you’d think about another country if a new regime quickly prohibited all government agencies from communicating with the public, then began deleting data from government websites that it deemed unacceptable.
FYI if you are looking for the Dec. 2024 AFFHT-0007 dataset from the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (which has apparently been deleted by the Trump administration) I've got the nationwide backup on my hard drive.

Remember it’s not normal for a FBI director - appointed by the president-elect himself to serve a 10 year term 7 years ago - to resign in this way, and it’s normal to nominate someone as unqualified as Patel to replace him.

None of this is normal - and should not be normalized by the news media!
FBI Director Chris Wray resigns following Trump nomination of Patel
FBI Director Chris Wray will step down from his post early next year, the bureau said on Wednesday, after Republican President-elect Donald Trump signaled his intent to fire the veteran official and replace him with firebrand Kash Patel.
