TRUMP [after spending 5 minutes with Zohran]: surplus value, it’s a very wonderful thing, very wonderful, and they’re stealing it. Can you believe that?

We’re going to be looking very strongly at the bourgeoisie, what they’re up to

For folks who've been playing along for a while, the vanguard for the end of rule of law have been American drivers, who realized about a ~ decade ago that they could maim and kill people with no repercussions.

Our current bout of fascism is just a mild expansion of that ethical/legal framework.
i used to believe it was against the law to break the law, feeling pretty silly about that now

I've been saying this, lol
Everyone’s too polite to say it in their “what Democrats should do to win elections” posts but the obvious answer is lie and make a bunch of crazy promises because most voters are morons

You know when you see a football team kick a field goal on 4th-and-4 despite being down 21 points? And they miss the field goal anyway? That's the Democratic Party.

I've thought about this before, and the answer is when Gordon Hayward's half-court shot that would have won the championship for Butler vs. Duke bounced off the rim and went out. A perfect ending was ruined, and it threw everything off since then.
What do yall think was the nexus event that created this branch in the timeline?
I’m torn between the Cats movie and when people were licking gallons of ice cream in the grocery store and putting it back.

I've been on this for awhile too. "Working class" has become more about aesthetics to the general population. I am, in reality, white working class but many people wouldn't call me that because my job is on a computer, and I don't own a truck.
Been banging the drum that there are two definitions of working class one is economic, so actual working class people you are describing, and cultural working class, an identity construction (ie. F150 drivers) and the discourse is mixing them up constantly, assigning the latter to the former.

old Soviet joke for our times:

Guy stops by the newsstand every day, scans the front page, doesn’t buy the paper. One day the vendor asks what he’s up to.

Guy says: “looking for an obituary.”

Vendor says “those are towards the back of the paper, comrade.”

Guy says: “not the one I’m looking for.”

Not exaggerating when I say I would like a personal, handwritten apology from every pundit who barfed out a dozen "the left wants to change the way you talk!" op-eds based on non-mandatory guidelines in obscure PDFs.

People (usually conservatives) complaining about the halftime show every year is hilarious to me. You can just not watch it! I didn't! I found something else to do. Halftime shows aren't made for me, and that's fine.

So when does the Senate Parliamentarian step up and put a stop to this?
February 4, 2025 at 5:44 PM
Something likely to keep happening is the administration will do something bad, people will be outraged, and then the bad thing will be fully or partially rescinded. Then bad-faith actors say you were overreacting without considering maybe the outrage was the reason the bad thing went away.

What I love about the Democratic party is they will say "We only have 53 Senate seats, so we can't do anything, sorry," but also "They have 53 Senate seats, so we can't stop anything they're doing, sorry."

It is beyond maddening to me the amount of people who just refuse to believe he would do what he said he would do.
Goldman Sachs, Jan 21: "Despite Trump’s comments that the 25% tariff will be implemented in 10 days, we continue to believe the odds of a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico are low (20%)." Why have analysts been caught so flat-footed by Trump doing *exactly what he said he would*?
