New in PN: Marjorie Taylor Greene flees Trump's sinking ship

"Whatever her motivation, it's clear MTG believes it's to her advantage to defy Trump in ways it was not before. Trump once seemed invincible; now being associated with him seems like a one-way ticket to electoral Siberia."

This is not what they actually say. This is what they used to say, in the long ago before times when Shaheen learned to do politics. There is no kumbaya median voter anymore. The question you get knocking doors is not "why can't you all just work together?" it's "why didn't / will you fight harder?
Shaheen: "When I talk to my constituents in New Hampshire, you know what they say to me? They say, 'Why can't you all just work together to address the problems that are facing this country?'"

Shaheen: "All those people who oppose this agreement -- staying in a shutdown mode was not getting us anywhere. They need to train their fire on the people who are responsible. That's Trump, Johnson, & the Republicans who have blocked every attempt to get healthcare. We need to be working together."

GOP operatives (including two Trump pollsters) have long called for reinstituting the ACA credits, warning that the GOP is on track to pay a “political penalty” for its actions.
As Jeffries points out, the largest percentage of voters who make use of the enhanced ACA tax credits are Republicans.

I know this is an obvious and old point, but it still shocks me how quickly the culture of the GOP has come to defined by the absurd personality type of the "toad-licking, ass kissing alpha." Amazing that they've built an audience that finds such deportment appealing, rather than disqualifying.

2/ Here's the piece by local Chicago journalist @ckubzansky.bsky.social on the baby pepper sprayed by Trump's out of control federal agents:

"At a nearby hospital Saturday afternoon, doctors called poison control for Arianna"

Arianna Sofia Veraza and her parents were driving to Sam's Club for milk, eggs and diapers yesterday when they heard helicopters and horns blaring yesterday. They had turned around to leave when a federal agent pepper-sprayed them through a car window.

A baby was pepper-sprayed by CPB here in Chicago this weekend. A BABY. DHS says it never happened but here's the video evidence. It shows: "a masked, helmeted man pointing a pepper-spray gun through his open window and firing into the car."

So the Dem #CaveCaucus aren't even getting a real vote out of their surrender:
♦️Without a House vote, any Senate vote is meaningless.
♦️And without at least 4 GOP crossovers, a Senate vote is meaningless too.
Q: Will you assure House Democrats they'll get a vote on ACA subsidies by a date certain?

MIKE JOHNSON: Ah -- no. I'm not promising anyone anything.

In order to pressure the Democrats to cave to Trump’s demands that they sign on to the House Republicans’ continuing resolution to fund the government, the administration has been refusing to fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits that 42 million Americans depend on to….

One of the talking points I keep seeing from Democrats is that part of the deal is that it will "ensure federal workers receive back pay" but that's the existing law!

That's not something you've won in negotiations. That's just the letter of the law. You don't get to claim that as a win.

This is really good to see: Miki Sherrill just put out a statement sharply criticizing the Senate Dems' pending cave in the government shutdown, ripping it as "malpractice" and a betrayal of the people who are "counting on us to fight for them." Sherrill knows what drove her victory. Wake up, Dems.

If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?
