This is a pretty big attack on the First Amendment. And an encroachment on universities' powers to decide what protests to allow and who to expel.....
We need to talk about Trump’s threat to defund universities unless they arrest and expel protesters.

We’re watching classic fascistic institutional capture in real time and if this continues unabated we’re going to look up and live in a world without escape. The time to fight is now.

This is going to be an extremely important case. Right now orgs ranging from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to AIDS/HIV advocacy, colleges, crisis centers, and more are being told to pretend trans people don't exist or lose your funding... and many are choosing to pretend!
BREAKING: Nonprofits sue over Trump's anti-diversity, anti-trans executive orders, alleging they violate the First Amendment & equal protection guarantees, are void for vagueness, exceed the president's authority, & violate the Administrative Procedure Act. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

What will science lose without DEI?

That’s the question @hencarnell.bsky.social and I sought to answer with this piece.

A hell of a lot, it turns out:

How are we starting our emails these days? Some options: I hope you are well (despite the pre-apocalypse). I hope this email finds you collecting bright spots of joy in the dark. I hope you can read this while hiding under your covers. I hope this email finds you not hyperventilating. What else? 😏

I caught up with a friend yesterday and when I said “how are you?” she said “you know, drowning in the outcomes of my decisions.” I felt seen. 😅

I found a note I wrote to myself during a hard time. I think I went to a grief support group and was supposed to keep it in my wallet as a reminder of my goals for myself or what I search for within myself or try to bring to the world despite hardships? 💗
